AUBURNDALE, FL –
Phil Sedalis had a two-run single in the seventh inning as #11 Rowan (8-3) scored six runs to rally for a 12-7 win over Southern Maine in baseball action at the RussMatt Invitational, as the Profs won their third straight.
Sedalis' long single brought home
Anthony Schooley and
Dylan Maria for the eventual winning runs, putting Rowan up 9-7. The Profs added more when
Karson Harcourt singled but ended up driving in two runs due to a Southern Maine error.
Tyler Cannon added the insurance run when he doubled to score Harcourt.
The Profs held a 6-2 lead but Southern Maine (1-7) scored five runs in the sixth to take a 7-6 lead.
Rowan scored in the first two innings, as the top of the order got them on the board. Cannon led off with a double and was moved around the bases, scoring on a ground out by Maria. Back-to-back doubles by Harcourt and
Jason Morgan accounted for another run, and the Profs went up 3-0 when
Ryan Murphy doubled to score Morgan.
Southern Maine got two back in the fourth inning but the Profs added two more in their half. Cannon and Murphy each hit singles and were brought home on a sacrifice fly by Maria and single by Schooley, respectively.
Cannon was 3-for-6 in the game with Defeciani going 3-for-5, while Sedalis and Harcourt each had two hits and two RBI.
Jake Reese made the start and went 5.1 innings with three strikeouts, but
Sean Colbert (2-0) earned the victory as he scattered two hits and kept the Huskies from scoring in the final innings.
Rowan closes out the Florida trip on Saturday morning against Ithaca, playing at Lake Myrtle Park at 9:30 a.m.
