BABSON PARK, MA – A pair of second-quarter goals just minutes apart lifted #10 Tufts to a 2-1 win over #16 Rowan in the second round of the NCAA Division III Field Hockey Championship hosted by Babson.
With the loss, the Profs end their season with a 12-8 record after winning their third straight NJAC title and making their fifth consecutive appearance in the NCAA Championship.
Julia Cavicchio gave the Profs the first lead on a penalty corner with 40 seconds to go in the first quarter, as she received the insert pass from
Aurelia McManis at the top of the circle, moved into the circle and sent a blast into the cage.
Tufts (13-5) scored the equalizer in the second quarter when Mia D'Angelo took a pass from Meghan MacDonald and put it past
Mariah Juiliano, for the first goal she allowed in five games.
The Jumbos scored again just three minutes later on a corner, as Andrea DelGuidice took a shot on the corner into a crowd, and it was deflected by Gabby Sousa.
Tufts held an 11-7 advantage in shots, but Rowan had a 9-5 edge in corners. Juiliano made five saves on the day for the Profs.
The Profs were 5-5 heading into October and went on to post a 7-3 record in the final two months of the season. Rowan also captured its third straight NJAC regular-season championship with a 4-1 mark.
