CAMBRIDGE, MA – Southern Maine scored a goal in each half to defeat #10 Rowan, 2-0, in the first round of the NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Championship hosted by MIT. The Profs end the year with a 14-2-2 record after making their second straight appearance in the NCAA Championship.
Southern Maine was awarded a penalty kick just before halftime and Mia Sargent connected to give the Huskies the 1-0 lead.
The Huskies scored an insurance goal in the 60
th minute, when Catriana Gould crossed it to Riley Reitchel.
Rowan outshot Southern Maine, 22-12, but the Huskies had the advantage in shots on goal, 8-6.
Calista Burke made six saves for the Profs.
The Profs won this year's NJAC regular-season championship with an 8-0-1 record and earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Championship.
