Defeciani's Home Run is the Game Winner as #7 Baseball Rallies to Edge TCNJ, 8-7

Ryan Murphy hits his team-high seventh homer of the year in the win

Game Highlights

GLASSBORO, NJ - Patrick Defeciani hit a two-run home run in the eighth inning to rally #7 Rowan to an 8-7 win over visiting TCNJ in NJAC baseball action today. The Profs run their record to 22-6 and 8-2 in the conference.

Defeciani's timely hit, which came after TCNJ erased a 6-1 lead and took a 7-6 edge in the top of the eighth, was his second homer of the year. Ryan Murphy hit a two-out single and crossed the plate with the tying run on Defeciani's hit.

Defeciani, Murphy, Tyler Cannon, Anthony Schooley and Ryan Mostrangeli each had two hits for the Profs. Eric DiDomenico and Murphy scored two runs apiece.

Starter Michael Miles went 5.0 innings and allowed just one hit and one run, while striking out three. Mike Shannon (3-1) entered in the eighth and earned the victory, striking out two, while Christian Bascunan notched his sixth save of the season, retiring all three batters in the ninth.

TCNJ (12-14; 3-7) struck first, scoring in the second inning on an RBI single from Justin Marcario, but the Profs answered back with two in the bottom half of the inning when Anthony Schooley doubled and with the bases-loaded, scored on a sacrifice fly by Nick Fazio. DiDomenico pushed the Profs ahead, 2-1, when he crossed the plate on a double from Cannon.

Rowan added more in the fourth on a three-run home run by Murphy, bringing home Chris Curcio, who reached base on a walk, and Cannon, who had singled. It was the junior right fielder's team-high seventh home run of the year.

The Profs scored one in the fifth on Curcio's sacrifice fly to bring home DiDomenico and build the lead to 6-1.

TCNJ started its comeback in the seventh and got one run off reliever David Levin, and one off Patrick Sudnikovich as the Lions loaded the bases. Dylan Maria entered and struck out two and got the third out as he knocked down a line drive and threw out Chris Cote at first to end the inning as the Lions cut the deficit to 6-4.

TCNJ wasn't finished as it scored three in the eighth, led by a two run double from Marcario, to take a 7-5 lead.

Murphy singled with two outs in the bottom of the eighth to set the stage for Defeciani's game-winner.

Rowan continues its stretch of five games in four days when it heads to Rutgers-Camden for a single game on Thursday and will then host the Scarlet Raptors on Friday.
