EWING, NJ – Seventh-ranked Rowan had 18 hits as it defeated TCNJ, 11-4, in NJAC baseball action today to give
Mike Dickson his 200th victory as the Profs' head coach. Rowan improves to 20-5 on the year and 6-1 in the conference.
Dickson, who was an All-American in his playing days at Rowan, is now 200-80 in seven years with the Profs, which includs two NJAC titles, one Regional championship and four appearances in the NCAA Regionals.
Anthony Schooley had four hits on the day, and Pat Defeciani had three, while lefthander
Eli Atiya remained unbeaten and picked up his sixth victory as he struck out four. Schooley was 4-for-6 with two runs and two RBI, while
Ryan Murphy,
Eric DiDomenico and
Chris Curcio contributed two RBI each.
The Profs scored at least one run in all but three innings, and built up a 10-0 lead by the seventh inning.
Ryan Mostrangeli started things off in the first, with a single that drove in
Ryan Murphy. Rowan then scored three in the second, led by a two-run home run from
Chris Curcio, his second of the year, that brought in
Hunter Wroniuk. Murphy finished the scoring with a single to score
Nick Fazio.
After hitting a double in the third, Schooley eventually advanced and stole home, while Fazio reached base on an error that allowed Curcio to score to build the lead to 6-0.
Eric DiDomenico hit a two-run homer of his own in the fourth, bringing in Schooley, which was his sixth round-tripper of the season. Schooley connected on his second double of the day in the seventh to score Defeciani and Murphy and give Rowan a 10-0 lead.
TCNJ tallied all of its runs in the seventh with three off Atiya and one off of reliever
David Levin. But the Profs shut them down the rest of the way, with
Dylan Maria piching two scoreless innings. The Profs also got one more run in the eighth inning when Murphy hit a sacrifice fly to bring home Fazio.
The Profs return home for a doubleheader against Ramapo on Saturday, with the first pitch at 11:30 a.m. Rowan is also scheduled to play TCNJ in a single game on Monday, in a makeup game from Thursday.
