Women's Soccer Knocked Off at Virginia Wesleyan, 1-0, in Second-Round NCAA Tournament Game

2022 NCAA Tournament Second Round

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA -- Rowan had its run through the 2022 NCAA Division III Tournament come to an end as the Profs fell, 1-0, to Virginia Wesleyan in a second-round contest Sunday afternoon.

The Marlin's Alexandria Soteriou scored the lone goal in the third minute and goalie Rachel Quigley was credited with a save as Virginia Wesleyan advances to face Wisconsin-La Crosse in the next round.

The Profs were limited to six shots for the contest in suffering its first loss of the season. Goalie Calista Burke ended the day with five saves, with four coming in the second half.

Soteriou's goal came after a free kick was set up just outside the box. The volley into the goalmouth found the foot of Alexis Miller, where her short flick came to Soteriou and was barely able to beat Burke for the goal.

Rowan had two looks late in the first half, but attempts from McKenna Williams in the 40th minute and another form Nina Carlson were both wide.

The Profs end the 2022 season with a 14-1-4 overall record.
