DiDonato's Hat Trick Lifts #2 Field Hockey Over TCNJ, 5-0, in NJAC Opener

Hainsworth makes career-high 11 saves to record second straight shutout

GLASSBORO, NJ – Vanessa DiDonato scored a hat trick and goalkeeper Abby Hainsworth had 11 saves as #2-ranked Rowan shut out conference rival TCNJ, 5-0, in the rescheduled NJAC opener on a cold and rainy night at Coach Wackar Stadium. The defending NJAC champion Profs are now 10-0 on the year, and 1-0 in the league.

It was the second three-goal game of DiDonato's career, and gives her four goals in Rowan's two wins this past week. For Hainsworth, it was her second straight shutout while she established a new career-high in saves.

TCNJ (4-5; 0-1) controlled the game early on but the Profs got the offense going, started by a corner. Julia Patrone took the initial shot, but Bridget Guinan was able to collect the rebound and back hand it in at 23:15.

Rowan expanded on the 1-0 lead in the second half, when DiDonato got her first goal, taking passes from Liz Fox and Kristiina Castagnola on a corner and scoring at 41:27.

The Profs would pile on in the final quarter, as DiDonato tipped in a blast from Julia Cavicchio on a corner at 47:20. Liz Fox made it 4-0 just one minute later on a corner when she sent in the entry pass, and quick passes by Patrone and Castagnola found Fox at the left post for the tap in.

DiDonato, a sophomore, closed out the scoring at 54:05 with a turn-around shot off a pass from Fox.

Hainsworth faced 11 shots on goal, and a barrage of seven shots in the final quarter, but made all of the stops to record her third shutout of the season.

Rowan has a quick turnaround and will head to Stockton to continue conference play on Wednesday evening.
