This feature of "Know Your Profs" is with cross country/track athlete Alyssa Sanders. She came in second (22.40.9) at the 2019 New Jersey Athletic Conference Cross Country Championships and was a member of the All-Conference first team.  Sanders was the indoor champion in the mile (5:16.22) at the 2020 NJAC Championships and came in second in the 3000 meters (10:51.06).  The senior earned All-Conference first team in the mile and was on the second team in the 3000 meters.  A Rowan Scholar-Athlete of Distinction, she was inducted into the Chi Alpha Sigma National College Athlete Honor Society and received NJAC All-Academic honorable mention.  Sanders is a team captain for both sports.
 
What was the biggest factor that led you to choose Rowan?
The biggest factor for me was being able to save money by living at home and the major I had chosen.
 
What is your most memorable moment in sports, whether at Rowan or before?
My most memorable moment was when we went to Boston University for indoor track. Running on that track made it feel like you were flying and I was always able to run good times there.
 
If you could play any other sport in college, what would it be and why?
If I could do any other sport and actually be good at it, I would probably choose swimming because there is still an individual athlete aspect, but you are still a team. Another sport would be tennis even though I am not very good, I just find it fun to play.
 
Who was your biggest role model growing up?
My biggest role model growing up was Allyson Felix.
 
If you could travel anywhere in the world where would you go and why?
This is a hard one because I love to travel. I would love to go to every country but number one on my bucket list would have to be Greece.
 
What's your choice – Netflix, YouTube, Cable TV? Favorite show?
Netflix - My favorite show is Gilmore Girls.
 
Who is your favorite professional athlete or team?
My favorite professional team is the Bowerman track club which includes Colleen Quigley, Karissa Schweizer, Shelby Houlihan and Courtney Frerichs.
 
Who is your favorite follow-on social media?
My favorite account on Instagram is Angela Rose Home because she shows that anyone can do home transformations.
 
Which do you prefer – online classes or in person?
I prefer in person classes.
 
What is your major at Rowan and what are your career aspirations?
I am a Translational Biomedical Science major and I plan on going to graduate school to get my PhD and go into research.
 
What's the best thing about being a Prof?
The best part of being a Prof is having a community of people to support you and cheer you on.
