WEST WINDSOR, NJ –
Drew Ryback threw five scoreless innings as the #24 Rowan baseball team opened the 2020 season with a 1-0 win over Stevens Tech (2-2), in a game played at Mercer County Community College.
Jeremy Dyzenhaus and
Dan Corvo each pitched two innings and kept Stevens off the board, with Corvo striking out three and recording the save. Ryback gave up five hits but had three strikeouts to pick up the victory.
Senior second baseman
Alex Kokos went 1-for-3 in the contest while
Trip McCaffrey was 1-for-2 at the plate in his Rowan debut.
The Profs got their lone run in the fourth when McCaffrey walked, advanced on a sacrifice bunt by
Jared Marks, moved to third on a passed ball and eventually scored on a wild pitch by Stevens' starter Chandler Brierley.
Ryan Mostrangeli saved a run for Rowan at the top of that inning, when he threw out Thomas Paulich at the plate, as he tried to score from second on a hit by Tom James.
"Drew, Jeremy and Dan did a really nice job keeping hitters off balance today. We were not able to get the bats going so we needed them to be good today, and they were," said sixth-year head coach
Mike Dickson.
The Profs (1-0) return to action on March 5 at Immaculata and then at Cabrini on March 7.
