Krystyna Hovell recorded all three goals in the Rowan University field hockey team's 3-1 win over Catholic University. It was the Profs' home opener.
All of the scoring came in the first two quarters. Forward Jess Waite (jr. Ambler, PA/Wissahickon) had the Cardinals' lone goal at 8:40. She knocked in a short pass by forward Hannah Bateman (so. Media, PA/Archbishop Carroll). Hovell tied the score (11:19) with a reverse shot into the top of the cage after a feed from forward
Bridget Boyle (sr. Medford, NJ/Shawnee).
In the second, Hovell scored from 10 yards out (18:08) and midfielder/back
Vicky Harper (fr. Basking Ridge, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan) had the assist. Hovell produced her third goal at 23:32, when she tipped in forward
Bridget Guinan's (so. Pottstown, PA/Owen J. Roberts) pass. In three games, Hovell has scored 10 goals.
The Profs are undefeated with a 3-0 record while the Cardinals are 1-2 on the season. Goalie
Morgan Novak (sr. Jackson, NJ/Jackson Mem.) made 10 saves. Rowan compiled 21 shots while Catholic took 10. For the Cardinals, Kim McGroary (jr. Phoenixville, PA/Archbishop Carroll) turned away seven shots.
