Football Goes on the Road to Hobart on Saturday

GLASSBORO, NJ - The Rowan University football team (0-2) goes on the road for the first time this season when it travels to Hobart (2-0) on Saturday. Kickoff is at noon at Boswell Field.

The Series (Rowan leads 2-0)
This is the third meeting between the schools but the first in regular-season play. The teams previously met in the 2004 NCAA Second Round and the 2006 First Round, with Rowan winning both games at home. The Profs scored a 45-14 win in 2004 and posted a 20-18 victory in 2006.

Accorsi at the Helm
Head coach Jay Accorsi is in his 18th season as the head coach of the Profs, and his 27th overall, and is the longest-tenured coach in program history. Accorsi owns the most wins (125) and most games coached (183) while the Profs have posted a record of .500 or better in all but two seasons under his guidance.

About the Profs
Rowan fell to 0-2 with the 35-14 loss to #12 Linfield College at home last Saturday. The Profs are on the road for two straight and return for the "Homecoming" game on October 5 vs. Kean in the NJAC opener.

About Hobart
The Statesman are 0-2 with wins over #13 Brockport (33-7, and at Morrisville State, 38-24. Hobart is coached by Kevin Dewall, who is in his fifth year. QB Ryan Hofmann has thrown for seven touchdowns this year.

Under Center
Sophomores Mike Husni and Nick Cuozzi battled all preseason at the quarterback position and Husni earned the starting nod. Husni, who transferred to Rowan from Marist, passed for 280 yards and three TDs in the loss to Widener. Cuozzi is in his first year with the Profs after transferring from Pace University.

Divine's Day
Messiah Divine ran for a season-best 95 yards against Linfield and scored his first rushing touchdown of the year, a 30-yarder in the third quarter. The junior is averaging 86.5 yards per game and 3.8 yards per carry this season.

Profs in the NCAA Stats
QB Mike Husni, WR Nick Grosso and WR Elijah Rehm rank among the top 50 nationally in the following categories:
    - Husni: 57th in Total Offense (269.5); 59th in Passing Yards (431)                        
    - Grosso: 13th in Yards/Reception (29.7) **; 37th in Receiving Yards (136) **; 61st in Receiving Yards/Game (104)
    - Rehm: 22nd in Punt Return Avg. (12.8) **
    - Team: 28th in Fewest Penalties (4.0) **; 41st in Rushing Defense (68.5); 46th in Punt Returns (12.7); 40th in Sacks Allowed (1.0)

No Whistles
The Profs rank 28th in the nation in fewest penalties with 4.0 per game and lead the NJAC. Rowan committed just two penalties in the Widener game for a total of 26 yards and then had six vs. Linfield. Last season, Rowan averaged eight penalties per contest.

The Stoppers
Mike Mascioli leads the Profs in tackles this season with 16, while David Gajderowicz has 14, including a team-high eight solos. Gajderowicz has a sack this year as do Sunny Tapp and Luke Genise.

Tough Tests
The Profs are facing a challenging schedule this year with three opponents in the D3football.com Top 25 (Linfield, Wesley, Salisbury) and one receiving votes (Hobart).

Up Next
The Profs have a bye next weekend and will return to action at Wesley College on October 5. Rowan returns to Wackar Stadium on October 12 for Homecoming against Kean.
