Baseball Wraps Up Regular Season With 17-5 Victory At Stockton

GALLOWAY, NJ – The Rowan University baseball team wrapped up the regular season with a 17-5 win at Stockton University on Sunday.
 
With the win, the Profs are 29-8 overall with a 14-4 New Jersey Athletic Conference mark. The Ospreys have a 13-19 record and they are 3-15 in the conference.
 
The Brown and Gold broke the school record for most triples in a game. Rowan totaled five triples, which surpassed the previous mark of four that was set back in 1996 and 2014. Center fielder Matt Woods (sr. Berlin, NJ/Eastern Reg.) led the way with five hits, two runs batted in (RBI), a double, one triple and three runs. Shortstop Dillon Mendel (sr. Sparta, NJ/Sparta) followed with four hits, a triple and four runs. Designated hitter Mitch Walker (jr. Pennsville, NJ/Pennsville Mem.) posted three hits, one triple and two RBIs and scored twice.
 
Catcher Steven Hewa (sr. Galloway, NJ/Absegami) produced four RBIs on two hits and a triple, while right fielder Eric Schorr (jr. Audubon, NJ/Audubon) chipped in a triple and two RBIs. Left-hander Drew Ryback (jr. Mantua, NJ/Clearview Reg.) was the winning pitcher (5-2), throwing six innings, allowing five hits, three runs and one earned, while striking out six. Righty Jeremy Dyzenhaus (jr. Morganville, NJ/Marlboro) tossed two innings and gave up one hit and Woods threw the ninth and fanned two batters. 
 
For Stockton, third baseman JJ Swentkowski (sr. Egg Harbor Twp., NJ/Egg Harbor Twp.) and left fielder Joe Cashman (sr. Bordentown, NJ/Bordentown) registered two hits apiece. Cashman had two RBIs and Swentkowski crossed home one time. Lefty Zach Fillmore (so. Manahawkin, NJ/Southern Reg.) suffered the loss (2-2), hurling 1.2 innings and allowing eight hits, 10 runs and six earned. 
 
The bats started hot for Rowan as it went ahead 4-0 in the opening inning. Mendel was first to reach base with a triple to left center. Walker followed with a triple to right center that plated Mendel. First baseman Anthony Harrold (sr. Woodbury, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) knocked in Walker with a single up the middle. After Hewa walked to have runners on first and second, Schorr tripled to center field scoring two runs. 
 
The offense kept rolling in the second inning for the Profs as they extended their lead to 10-0. Left fielder Frankie Aiello (jr. Wyckoff, NJ/Ramapo) led off with a walk and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Woods knocked in Aiello when he doubled down the right field line. The next run scored when second baseman Alex Kokos (jr. Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley) walked with the bases load. Hewa cleared the bases on the next at-bat when he blasted a triple to center field. The final run of the second was scored on a RBI single up the middle by third baseman Nick Schooley (so. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee).
 
The Brown and Gold added two runs in the third for a 12-0 advantage when Walker singled through the left side to score Woods and Mendel. The Ospreys posted two runs in the bottom half to trail, 12-2. Cashman had a RBI single through the right side and first baseman John Perrino (so. Wall, NJ/Wall) scored on a passed ball. 
 
Rowan put the game out of reach as it scored five runs in the fifth and sixth innings, compared to Stockton's three to win by the eventual score.
