Softball Sweeps Host Rutgers-Camden, 4-0 and 9-1

 
CAMDEN, NJ – The Rowan University softball team swept host Rutgers-Camden, 4-0 and 9-1 in a conference doubleheader on Thursday.
 
Right-hander Jesse DeDomenico (jr. East Windsor, NJ/Hightstown) recorded a no-hitter in the first game.  It was the fourth of her career on the mound for the Profs.  In seven innings, DeDomenico (14-5) struck out seven batters. Righty Sarah Byrnes (so. Cherry Hill, NJ/Camden Catholic) took the loss (7-12).  
 
Third baseman Cassandra Gerard (sr. Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley) contributed with a home run and three RBIs.  DeDomenico added one RBI and scored one run.  Shortstop Carly Anderson (sr. Nutley, NJ/Nutley) was four for four at the plate with a double and one run.  Designated player Kelly Duffy (so. Sayreville, NJ/Sayreville War Mem.) added two hits.
 
The Profs scored all four runs in the seventh inning.  DeDomenico reached base on a fielder's choice and center fielder Kristina Mueller (sr. Basking Ridge, NJ/Ridge) scored.  Gerard blasted a three-run shot to left center.  It was her first home run on the season.
 
In the second contest, DeDomenico (15-5) was the winning pitcher in relief.  She threw five innings and did not give up a hit or a run.  Brynes had the loss (7-13).
 
Catcher Christina Guarino (so. West Caldwell, NJ/James Caldwell) totaled three RBIs and had a home run.  DeDomenico and Gerard each collected three hits, one RBI and one run. Duffy chipped in with two RBIs. Second baseman Sonia Sharma (so. Mahwah, NJ/Immaculate Heart Academy) and first baseman Alexa Saccomanno (fr. Kinnelon, NJ/Kinnelon) each had two hits. Mueller scored two runs.  
 
Rowan is 26-10 overall and 12-4 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference.  Rutgers-Camden has a 10-20 record with a 5-11 mark.
 
For the Scarlet Raptors, left fielder Kimmy Musarra (fr. Millville, NJ/Millville) collected one hit and one run.  First baseman Marissa Beebe (jr. Barrington, NJ/Haddon Heights) produced one RBI.
 
Rutgers-Camden's run came in the bottom of the first inning. Beebe walked with the bases loaded, scoring Musarra.  Rowan took the lead with three runs in the second.  Guarino slammed a two-run homer to left center.  DeDomenico drove in Mueller with a double to left center. The Profs went on to score one run in the fifth inning and three more in the sixth.  Guarino registered a sac fly in the fifth.  Duffy scored a run with a ground out in the sixth.  DeDomenico and Gerard came home on an error with Sharma at bat. The Profs added two runs in the seventh. Gerard and Duffy each had a RBI single.
 
Rowan hosts conference opponent Montclair State University on Saturday, April 27 at 1 p.m. in the last regular season doubleheader.
