Softball Blanks Neumann University, 7-0 And 7-0

ASTON, PA – The Rowan University softball team blanked Neumann University, 7-0 and 7-0 in a doubleheader on Thursday.  
 
Right-hander Jesse DeDomenico (jr. East Windsor, NJ/Hightstown) recorded her fourth shutout in the opener.  She (6-4) only allowed one hit and struck out 14 batters.  At the plate, DeDomenico had two hits, a double, one RBI and one run.  Righty Nicole Wisser (jr. Egg Harbor Twp., NJ/Egg Harbor Twp.) had the loss (2-2).    
 
Left fielder Morgan Zane (fr. Pittsgrove, NJ/A.P. Schalick) contributed with three hits, a double, one RBI and one run. Third baseman Cassandra Gerard (sr. Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley), catcher Christina Guarino (so. West Caldwell, NJ/James Caldwell) and first baseman Mackenzie Short (jr. Denton, MD/North Caroline) each added a hit and one RBI.  The Profs ended the game with 10 hits.  Center fielder Jackie Selby (jr. Verona, NJ/Verona) had the Knights' lone hit. 
 
Rowan scored three runs in the third inning. Short led off with a single and went to second on a sac bunt by center fielder Kristina Mueller (sr. Basking Ridge, NJ/Ridge).  DeDomenico drove in Short with a single up the middle.  Gerard had a RBI single to center field, scoring DeDomenico.  Zane hit a single down the left field line and Gerard came home. 
 
The Profs added three more runs in the sixth. Guarino had a base hit and Zane scored. Zane had a lead-off double and advanced to third on a wild pitch.  Pinch runner Gianna Decker (sr. Southampton, NJ/Seneca) took over at first for Guarino. Decker moved to second and third on wild pitches.  Short grounded out and Decker touched home plate.  Second baseman Sonia Sharma (so. Mahwah, NJ/Immaculate Heart Academy) scored the sixth run on a passed ball.  
 
In the top of the seventh, right fielder Rebecca Lombardo (so. New Egypt, NJ/New Egypt) replaced designated player Kelly Duffy (so Sayreville, NJ/Sayreville War Mem.) who produced a  double.  Lombardo stole home while Zane went to second.   
 
Right-hander Lauren Shannon (jr. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.). was the winning pitcher in the nightcap.  She (5-2) gave up two hits and had 10 strikeouts.  Righty Kaylee Fiocca (fr. Philadelphia, PA/Philadelphia Performing Arts) suffered the loss (0-2) on the mound.  
 
Shortstop Carly Anderson (sr. Nutley, NJ/Nutley) and Gerard each registered two hits, a double and one RBI.  Mueller contributed with two hits, one RBI, one run and two stolen bases.  Sharma and Short each chipped in with one hit and one RBI. Zane added a double and scored one run.  Rowan compiled 12 hits.  First baseman Jackie Schneider (sr. Holland, PA/Council Rock) and Shelby had one hit apiece for Neumann (11-7).    
 
The Profs scored one run in the top of the first inning.  Anderson started the frame with a single and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Duffy knocked in Anderson with a single to left field.  The Profs led 5-0 after the fourth inning.  Zane scored on a single by Sharma after reaching base with a double to left center. Short recorded a sac fly and Guarino touched home plate.  Mueller had a RBI single and she scored on Anderson's double.  In the seventh, DeDomenico was hit by a pitch and rounded the bases on Gerard's double down the left field line.  Gerard crossed home plate on Guarino's single up the middle.     
 
Rowan (12-6) travels to Kean University on Saturday, March 30 for a twin bill at 1 p.m.
