GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University baseball team scored seven runs in the second inning en route to an 11-2 victory over Haverford College on Tuesday.
The Profs have an 8-4 record and the Fords are 7-7 overall.
Second baseman
Alex Kokos (jr. Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley) led Rowan with three hits, a double and three runs batted in (RBI). Catcher
Steven Hewa (sr. Galloway, NJ/Absegami) added two hits including one double and scored twice, while designated hitter
Anthony Harrold (sr. Woodbury, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) chipped in one hit and two RBIs.
Right-hander
Jeremy Dyzenhaus (jr. Morganville, NJ/Marlboro) earned the win, pitching five innings and striking out two. Right-hander
Victor Lebron (sr. Blackwood, NJ/Highland Reg.) tossed two innings and struck out two. Righty
Matt Woods (sr. Berlin, NJ/Eastern Reg.) and Lefty
Shane Kubrak (jr. Cherry Hill, NJ/Paul IV) each threw a frame and fanned two batters. At the plate, Woods scored three times, posted two hits, a triple and a RBI.
For Haverford, first baseman Luke Wallis (jr. Washington, DC/Woodrow Wilson) and third baseman Nick Perez (sr. Lebanon, NJ/The Hun School of Princeton) produced two hits apiece. Shortstop Will Karp (jr. Princeton, NJ/Hopewell Valley Central) and designated hitter Ryan Schwartz (fr. Solon, OH/Solon) each contributed one hit and a RBI.
Right-hander Luke Duris (sr. Bensalem, PA/Holy Ghost Prep) suffered the loss, pitching three innings, allowing eight runs and six hits.
The Profs wasted no time in the first inning when Harrold hit a RBI single up the middle and scored Woods to take a 1-0 lead. The game was tied in the second when Karp doubled down the right field line and plated catcher Sam Partee (sr. Richmond, VA/St. Christopher's).
Rowan extended its lead to 8-1 in the second after scoring seven runs. With the bases loaded, left fielder
Dan Shane (sr. Perkasie, PA/Pennridge) hit a RBI single to left. Hewa was next to reach home on a throwing error by Haverford. The Brown and Gold added three more runs on a walk, Kokos' single and a ground out to advance Woods home. Walker knocked in the final two scores on a double down the left line.
After the Fords scored a run in the fourth to trail, 8-2. The Profs extended its advantage to 10-2 in the sixth. Kokos singled up the middle to bring in shortstop
Nick Schooley (so. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) and Woods. Rowan produced one more run in the seventh to lead, 11-2.
The baseball team plays Neumann University at home on Wednesday, March 27 at 3:30 p.m.
