GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University women's swim team has five student-athletes headed to the NCAA Division III Championships on Wednesday-Saturday, March 20-23 at the Greensboro Aquatic Center in Greensboro, NC.
Carlee Timmins (jr. Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill E.) has qualified for nationals in the 1650 freestyle. She will also swim the 200 and 500 freestyles. Rowan will compete in the 200 and 400 medley relays and the 200 and 400 freestyle relays.
Abigail Brous (so. West Deptford, NJ/West Deptford),
Emily Kopchick (so. Mullica Hill, NJ/Clearview Reg.),
Daria Mnich (jr. Clark, NJ/Arthur L. Johnson) and
Miranda Coughlan (sr. Sewell, NJ/Clearview Reg.) will make up the relays.
"Carlee has worked really hard these past few weeks," stated head coach
Brad Bowser. "Her competitive nature is really peaking at the right moment. She is very capable of pacing herself to a top 16 finish and earn All-American status."
Timmins is seeded 14
thin the 1650 freestyle with a time of 17:07.70. She recorded the time at the Metropolitan Championships, which improved on her school record and came in first place. The 1650 freestyle is on Saturday. She will compete in the 500 freestyle on Wednesday. Timmins took first place in 5:01.98 at Mets. Her best swim in the 200 freestyle is 1:55.99. The 200 freestyle event is on Thursday. Timmins was chosen the Metropolitan Championships Swimmer of the Meet.
"The women are really excited to be able to compete," Bowser said. "They are working hard in cleaning up their starts and turns to make another spectacular relay swim when it counts the most. The emotions are going to be high and the energy that they will show will have each of them have the swims of their lives."
The 200 medley relay is scheduled for Wednesday. Rowan is seeded 17
thwith a time of 1:44.53 from the Metropolitan Championships. The 200 medley relay took first place at Mets and set a University record.
The Profs will swim the 200 freestyle and 400 medley relays on Thursday. The 200 freestyle's best time is 1:37.84. The 400 medley relay has a time of 3:51.82, which took first at Mets and was a new school mark.
Rowan is entered in the 400 freestyle relay on Saturday. The Profs have a time of 3:34.36 from the Metropolitan Championships and they finished second.
The women's swimming & diving team ended the season with a 9-2 record. The Profs were undefeated in the New Jersey Athletic Conference with a 5-0 mark for their third straight conference title. They also won their second consecutive Metropolitan Championship.
