GLASSBORO, NJ – Montclair State scored a touchdown with 5:31 remaining to earn a 24-17 win over Rowan in NJAC football action at Coach Richard Wackar Stadium.
Carsen Johnson made a diving catch in the end zone of a 38-yard Ja'Quill Burch pass for the winning touchdown as Montclair State (4-4; 3-2 NJAC) rallied from a 17-10 halftime deficit.
Rowan (2-6; 2-3) had one more chance and started its final drive of the game on their own 36 with 5:31 to play. A 28-yard completion to
Nick Grosso moved them to the Montclair State 33.
Messiah Divine ran five times to gain 28 yards and advance the Profs to the visitors' four-yard line for first and goal, but MSU stopped Rowan on four straight plays to take over with :34 left, and the Red Hawks ran out the clock.
Burch had tossed a 56-yard completion to Kason Campbell late in the third quarter to tie the score at 17-17.
Grosso led the Profs with five catches for 86 yards, while
John Maldonado and
Elijah Rehm each had three receptions for 45 yards, with Rehm scoring one touchdown. Divine gained 83 yards on 24 carries and quarterback
Mike Husni completed 13-for-21 for 184 yards.
Montclair State had 207 yards of total offense in the second half while its defense held the Profs without a first down in the final two quarters.
Rowan goes back on the road next week on November 9 to face Christopher Newport.

- Montclair State got on the board with a 16-yard pass play from Ja'Quill Burch to Zach Skrivanic (RU 10-7)
- Husni scampered in from 10 yards out for his third rushing touchdown of the season (RU 17-7)
- MSU's Anthony Marinel hit a 42-yard field goal with 12 seconds left in the half (RU 17-10)
3rd Quarter
- Rowan opened the second half with a seven-play drive but a pass interference penalty gave them fourth-and-17, and the drive ended with a punt
- Montclair State tied the score on the pass from Burch to Campbell at 2:58
4th Quarter
- With the Profs backed up on their own 10-yard,
Nick Grosso made a 29-yard reception on the sideline
- Montclair State stopped the Profs' drive with an interception by Brennan Ray at 7:53, setting up the winning score as Carsen Johnson made a diving 38-yard reception in the end zone (MSU 24-17)
