DOVER, DE – The Rowan University football team scored two touchdowns in the span of 35 seconds in the fourth quarter, but the Profs fell short in their upset bid of #12 Wesley, 21-20, at Miller Stadium in the NJAC opener for both teams.
Trailing 21-7,
Nick Grosso hauled in a 26-yard pass from
Mike Husni for a touchdown at 8:11. On Wesley's possession at their own four-yard line,
Luke Genise broke through the line and grabbed the ball, taking it into the end zone for the touchdown at 7:26. Rowan's extra-point attempt by
Jake Hurler, however, was off the mark.
Wesley opened the scoring in the game on a 10-yard pass from Mullin, but the Profs tied it in the second quarter on a 30-yard run by
Messiah Divine at 9:46. Rowan had a chance in the final seconds of the half on third-and-goal but Wesley's defense stopped Grosso after a 5-yard completion.
Wesley scored twice in the third quarter on a 5-yard run by Marcellus Pack capping a 73-yard drive and then again on a 21-yard catch by Ruhann Peele with 1:43 left in the quarter.
Divine ran for a season-high 118 yards on 26 rushes while Grosso caught nine passes for 80 yards for the Profs.
Rowan is 0-4 (0-1 NJAC) while Wesley improves to 4-0 (1-0).
