Box Score WAYNE, NJ – The Rowan football team scored 21 unanswered points en route to a 21-14 win over William Paterson in NJAC action today at Wightman Stadium, to snap a two-game losing streak and improve to 2-2 in the conference and 2-5 overall. 
 
William Paterson (2-5; 0-4 NJAC) owned a 7-0 lead at halftime but the Profs did all of their scoring in the second half, with three straight touchdowns, including one on a fumble recovery.
 
After William Paterson had pulled to within 21-14 in the fourth quarter, Rowan's defense stopped the Pioneers, forcing them to punt with under five minutes to go. WP had another possession starting at 2:05, but Rowan sophomore Mike Mascioli intercepted a pass by Cornelius Kinchen to seal the victory and allow the Profs to run out the clock. Rowan did so, helped by a 13-yard run from Messiah Divine.
 
Rowan's defense and special teams came up big in the win as Mascioli had 11 solo tackles, 3.5 tackles for losses and the game-saving interception. Freshman Jajuan Hays scooped up a WP fumble on a kickoff and ran it in six yards for a touchdown. Punter Tom Brennan had eight punts on the day, with 47 yards being his longest, and hit five of them inside the 20.
 
Rowan quarterback Mike Husni completed 7-of-11 passes for 82 yards, with a 38-yard touchdown to Nick Grosso being the longest of the afternoon. Husni also ran for 32 yards while Messiah Divine had 48 yards on 16 carries and senior Elijah Rehm ran for a 30-yard touchdown.
 
"The players and coaching staff did a great job rebounding from a subpar first half. Our kickers and special teams play made a big difference to help secure the win," said head coach Jay Accorsi.
 
Rowan had just 50 offensive yards in the first half, and only one first down, but compiled 155 yards and nine first downs in the second half.
 
How it Happened:
1st Quarter
- The teams combined for five punts in the quarter
- The Profs had a first-and-goal at WP's nine late in the quarter, but the Pioneers Jared Salgado forced a fumble
 
2nd Quarter
- William Paterson started a drive late in the first quarter and finished it in the second on a 1-yard touchdown run by Terrique Riddick, a drive which totaled 92 yards (WP 7-0)
 
3rd Quarter
- Mike Husni connected with Nick Grosso for a 38-yard touchdown at 11:31 as the Profs used seven plays to go 62 yards (RU 7-7)
- Kameron Kennedy intercepted a pass by Tracy Fudge to set up the Profs' next score
- Starting at the WP 43-yard line, Rowan went four plays ending with a 30-yard run by Elijah Rehm at 7:21 (RU 14-7)
- Freshman Jajuan Hays scooped up a WP fumble on the kickoff at the six-yard line and ran it in for the score at 7:12 (RU 21-7)
 
4th Quarter
- Cornelius Kinchen completed a 23-yard touchdown pass to William Frese at 12:47 (RU 21-14)
- Leading 21-14, the Rowan defense held WP to -1 yards on their four-play drive with under five minutes to play
- Mike Mascioli's interception with under two minutes to play helped seal the win
 
After two straight games on the road, the Profs return home to Coach Richard Wackar Stadium next Saturday, November 2 to host Montclair State at 1 p.m.
