Women's Soccer Defeats New Jersey City, 8-1

NEW JERSEY CITY, NJ – The Rowan University women's soccer team defeated conference opponent New Jersey City University, 8-1.
 
Midfielder Dominique Marrone led the way with three goals and one assist. Midfielder/back Bethany Sansone followed with two goals.  Midfielder Morgan Ostermueller and forwards Imani Gaines and Abby Daigle each contributed with a goal.  Forwards Aidan Sheehan, Jessica Beck and Daria Jones all had one assist. Backs Kelsi Stangl and Kalin Priest and Gaines each chipped in with an assist.
 
The Profs improve to 6-5-1 overall and 2-2-1 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference.  Goalkeepers Alessia LaRosa and Amanda Leber were in the Profs' net in the first and second half respectively.  Rowan compiled 34 total shots while New Jersey City had 11.  
 
Midfielder Mallensy Vargas had NJCU's goal.  The Gothic Knights have a 7-6-1 record with a 0-4-1 conference mark. Goalie Cidney Lee-Sam stopped nine shots and Cindy Espinal had one save.
 
Rowan was ahead 4-0 after the first half.  Sansone started the scoring in the fifth minute when she headed in a cross from Marrone.  Marrone knocked in a rebound (18:40) into the lower left side of the next after Sheehan's shot was saved by Lee-Sam.  Marrone hit the lower left side again in the 37th minute.  Ostermueller kicked in a rebound (42:03) for the fourth marker after Gaines' shot hit the crossbar.
 
In the final stanza, Marrone scored (49:35) with a pass from Jones. Daigle blasted a high shot (61:26) for a 6-0 advantage and Beck assisted.  Vargas spoiled the shutout with a penalty kick in the 62nd minute.  Gaines (71:17) and Sansone (75:00) hit the net while Priest and Stangl each had an assist respectively.
