NEW PROVIDENCE, NJ – The Rowan University women's swim team had a tri-meet with Stevens Institute of Techology, Johns Hopkins University and Swarthmore College on Saturday. The event was held at the Berkeley Aquatic Club.
The Profs defeated Swarthmore, 181-80 and Stevens, 176-85 while Johns Hopkins had a 157-102 victory. Rowan is 7-2 on the season.
The women won the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:33.05 and was second in the 200 medley relay (1:48.54). The free relay included
Elizabeth O'Brien (so. Flemington, NJ/Hunterdon Central Reg.),
Miranda Coughlan (sr. Sewell, NJ/Clearview Reg.),
Megan Miller (jr. Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill E.) and
Abigail Brous (so. West Deptford, NJ/West Deptford). Brous,
Bailey Howarth (jr. Egg Harbor Twp., NJ/Egg Harbor Twp.),
Daria Mnich (jr. Clark, NJ/Arthur L. Johnson) and Coughlan were on the medley relay.
Coughlan claimed first place in the 50 (24.35) and 100 (52.33) freestyles.
Carlee Timmins (jr. Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill E.) came in first (17:29.16) in the 1650 freestyle and she was third (5:09.47) in the 500 free. Howarth was the winner (1:08.14) in the 100 breaststroke. She had a fourth place (2:27.30) in the 200 breaststroke and was eighth (2:15.38) in the 200 individual medley.
Brous took third (58.43) in the 100 backstroke and eighth (55.74) in the 100 free.
Gabby Gligor (sr. Medford, NJ/Shawnee) came in third (59.65) in the 100 butterfly. Miller had a fourth place (1:09.50) in the 100 breaststroke and
Emily Kopchick (so. Mullica Hill, NJ/Clearview Reg.) was sixth (1:09.84). Kopchick also finished sixth (2:30.41) in the 200 breaststroke.
In the 200 butterfly,
Jordan Jones (fr. Somerset, NJ/Homeschooled) took fourth (2:15.01) while
Veronica Alferez (so. Elmwood Park, NJ/Elmwood Park Mem.) and Gligor were sixth (2:15.72) and seventh (2:16.37) respectively. Alferez had a fifth place (5:20.74) in the 500 freestyle and she was sixth (2:13.90) in the 200 individual medley.
Alex Bambrick (jr. Caldwell, NJ/James Caldwell) was third (2:10.76) in the 200 backstroke and fifth (1:00.95) in the 100 backstroke. Mnich took fifth (59.96) in the 100 butterfly.
Claire McKissick (jr. Ellicott City, MD/Archbishop Spalding) had a fifth place (19:11.38) in the 1650 freestyle and was ninth (5:31.90) in the 500 free.
O'Brien had a fourth place (2:12.21) in the 200 backstroke and she finished sixth (1:59.63) in the 200 freestyle while
Emily LaBenski (jr. Wenonah, NJ/Deptford Twp.) was eighth (1:59.89). LaBenski was also fifth (2:30.08) in the 200 breaststroke.
Kylie Salerno (fr. Castleton, NY/Maple Hill) was sixth (1:01.51) in the 100 backstroke and seventh (2:14.26) in the 200 backstroke.
Next week, Rowan hosts The College of New Jersey on Saturday, Jan. 26 at 1 p.m. in the final home meet of the regular season. One session of the diving will be held at 11 a.m.
