BUENA VISTA, VA – The Rowan University football team travels to Southern Virginia University on Saturday, Sept.8 to open New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC).
The Profs look to keep its winnings ways going after their exciting 41-34 double overtime victory against Widener University. The Knights fell to Christopher Newport, 38-9 in its first game in 2018. This will be the fifth meeting in history between the teams and the Brown and Gold lead the series, 4-0.
Last season, Rowan started conference action against Southern Virginia and won 28-19. Running back
Anthony Diorio (sr. Medford, NJ/Shawnee)contributed three touchdowns, while running back
John Mannion (sr. Verona, NJ/James Caldwell) added one. The Brown and Gold typically have had a strong start in the NJAC under head coach
Jay Accorsi, as they are 12-4 in conference openers and 6-2 when they are away.
The Profs defeated Widener in the first game of the season, 41-34. Wide receiver
Elijah Rehm (jr.Clayton, NJ/Clayton) made a statement in his first game as he returned two kickoff returns for touchdowns. Rehm currently leads the NJAC and the country in kickoff return yards (254) and all-purpose yard (289). The running back trio of Mannion, Diorio and
Messiah Divine (so. Trenton, NJ / Montgomery) racked up a total of 310 yards and found the end zone twice.
