GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University football team has high hopes of redemption after it finished the 2017 season with a 4-6 record. The Profs open their year in the "Battle of the Bridges" game at Widener University on Thursday, August 30, with the game slated to start at 7:37 p.m. This will be the sixth matchup in history between both teams and the Brown and Gold lead the series, 4-1.
This is the fourth straight year these teams opened the season against each other. Rowan took the last three previous meetings against Widener and look to make it four. The Profs won last year on a gritty 6-0 defensive battle. The Brown and Gold hope to kick off the season the right way and continue into conference play.
The Profs will rely senior captains
Kevin Stokes,
Travelle Curry and
Anthony Diorio to lead them throughout the year. Stokes looks to cause havoc to opposing offensive lines, as he finished the 2017 season with 38 total tackles, and 6.5 sacks. Curry returns to the defense, as he will lock down the top wide receivers on visiting teams. Diorio is geared up after an impressive 2017 season. He led the team in rushing with 649 yards, and seven touchdowns.
