Field Hockey Advances To NJAC Final After 3-0 Win Over Stockton

GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University field hockey team advanced to the final of the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Championship Tournament after a 3-0 win over Stockton University on Wednesday night.
 
Rowan hosts The College of New Jersey (14-3) in the championship on Saturday, Nov. 3 at 1 p.m.  The Profs (19-0) are the top seed in the conference tournament.  In the semifinals, TCNJ advanced on a shootout against Montclair State University, 2-1.  The Lions are seeded third in the conference tournament.  The NJAC champion receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament.
 
All three of the Profs' goals came in the second half.  Back Casey Wagner (jr. Erial, NJ/Timber Creek Reg.) scored at 37:50 with a shot just inside the circle after midfielder Bridget Boyle (jr. Medford, NJ/Shawnee) took a penalty corner.  Midfielder Kristina Castagnola (fr. Voorhees, NJ/Eastern Reg.) hit the cage (47:03) from five yards with a shot that went over the goalie. Back Julie Johnson (sr. Mount Ephraim, NJ/Audubon) had the assist.
 
Forward Rachel Galante (sr. Mount Laurel, NJ/Collingswood) blasted a shot for the third goal (68:47) and Johnson assisted.    It was Galante's 25thgoal on the season and the 17thassist for Johnson.  Goalie Morgan Novak (jr. Jackson, NJ/Jackson Mem.) recorded her fifth shutout.  For Stockton, goalie Emily Gilligan (jr. West Deptford, NJ/West Deptford) stopped 10 shots.
