GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University field hockey team defeated The College of New Jersey, 3-2 in a conference showdown on Tuesday night.
This afternoon, the Profs moved ahead of the Lions to fourth in the National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division III Coaches Poll and TCNJ was ranked fifth. Rowan is undefeated with a 15-0 record and a 5-0 mark in the New Jersey Athletic Conference. TCNJ is 10-3 overall and 2-2 in the conference.
The Lions had a 10-game win streak against the Profs. Rowan's last victory was 4-3 in the first round of the 2012 NJAC Championship Tournament.
The Profs ended the game with 29 total shots and the Lions had eight. Rowan also compiled 14 penalty corners to TCNJ's one. Lions' goalie Maddie Beaumont (jr. Oxford, NJ/Belvidere) turned away 10 shots. Goalie

Rachel Galante (sr. Mount Laurel, NJ/Collingswood) tied the score at 39:33. She blasted a shot just inside the top of the circle after a penalty corner by forward

Casey Wagner (jr. Erial, NJ/Timber Creek Reg.) produced the go ahead goal (4:53). She knocked in a short pass from back
Julie Johnson (sr. Mount Ephraim, NJ/Audubon). Four minutes later, forward/midfielder Kayla Peterson (jr. Cream Ridge, NJ/Allentown) cut the deficit to one. She spun around and hit the left side of the Rowan cage.
TCNJ was ahead at the half 1-0 after forward Cayla Andrews (jr. Hackettstown, NJ/Hackettstown) found the lower left corner of the cage. The Profs outshot the Lions, 14-4 in the period and Beaumont kept Rowan off the scoreboard with five saves.
Rowan travels to Montclair State University on Saturday, Oct. 20 for a 5 p.m. game. The winner most likely will be the top seed in the conference championship tournament.
