Box Score JERSEY CITY, NJ – The Rowan University women's soccer team came back for a 3-1 win at New Jersey City University on Saturday afternoon.
The Profs scored three straight goals in the second half. Rowan has a 4-1-1 record while New Jersey City is 2-5 on the season. It was the conference opener for both teams.
Midfielder
Darah Wagner (so. Hamilton, NJ/Steinert) hit the net twice and forward
Melissa Kelly (sr. Pine Brook, NJ/DePaul Catholic) contributed with one goal. Forward
Shannon Reardigan (sr. Glassboro, NJ/Glassboro), midfielder/forward
Lauren Wood (sr. Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) and midfielder
Sarah Rosenberg (jr. Kinnelon, NJ/Kinnelon) each registered an assist.
Midfielder Mallensy Vargas (so. North Bergen, NJ/Memorial) scored for the Gothic Knights. Rowan compiled 36 shots while NJCU had four. In the Profs' net, goalkeeper
Shelby Money (jr. Vineland, NJ/Vineland) made three saves. The Gothic Knights' goalie Dominique Jackson (jr. Bayonne, NJ/Bayonne) turned away 11 shots.
Vargas gave NJCU a 1-0 lead at 12:12 when she blasted a shot into the upper left corner of the net. At the 50-minute mark, Kelly tied the score with a pass from Reardigan. Wagner headed in the go ahead marker (79:55) and Wood assisted. With 6:52 remaining, Wagner hit the top right corner after a feed by Rosenberg.
Next, Rowan travels to Arcadia University on Wednesday, Sept. 20 for a 4 p.m. game.
