Box Score COLLEGEVILLE, PA – The Ursinus College field hockey team won 5-3 over Rowan University on Friday night.   
 
It was the first game of the season for both teams.  This week, the Bears are ranked seventh in the National Field Hockey Coaches Association Coaches Poll. 
 
Forwards Gemma Dufoe (so. Malvern, PA/West Chester E) and Katerina DeLuca (so. Thornton, PA/Westtown School) led Ursinus each with two goals and one assist.  Forward Brooke Overly (sr. Ephrata, PA/Ephrata) scored one goal and had one assist.  Goalie Jules Singer (jr. Newtown, PA/Council Rock N.) made 11 saves.
 
For the Profs, midfielder Julie Johnson (jr. Mount Ephraim, NJ/Audubon) contributed with two goals and one assist.  Midfielder Dayna DeVincentz (fr. Flemington, NJ/Hunterdon Central) scored one goal in her first collegiate game.  In the Profs' net, Carly DeMarco (sr. Gloucester City, NJ/Gloucester City) stopped eight shots. 
 
All of the scoring came in the first half.  Johnson scored with a shot inside the circle (21:14) and tied the score at two.  Her second tally (25:26) gave Rowan a 3-2 advantage when she knocked in a rebound.  Dufoe knotted the score at three with an unassisted goal at 26:39.  She then gave the Bears the lead 4-3 (33:13) with a second straight tally.  DeLuca scored from the left post (34:02) on a pass from Overly.
 
The Profs kept the pressure on in the second period.  Rowan outshot Ursinus, 14-6 in the final half.  Overly put Ursinus on the scoreboard first (3:03) with an assist from DeLuca.  DeVincentz's goal came on a penalty corner (8:12) and Johnson had the assist.  DeLuca made the score 2-1 (20:48) and Dufoe assisted.  The Profs ended the game with 27 shots and the Bears took 18.
 
Rowan hosts Franklin & Marshall College in the home opener on Sunday, Sept. 3 at noon.  The game will be played at Coach Richard Wackar Stadium.
