Scranton Women's Soccer Wins 2-0 Over Rowan In NCAA First Round

Box Score MECHANICSBURG, PA – The University of Scranton women's soccer team won 2-0 over Rowan University in the first round of the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament on Saturday. 
 
Scranton (15-3-2) plays host Messiah College (15-2-3) in the second round on Sunday at 1:30 p.m.  The second round winner advances to the sectionals on Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 18 and 19.  In the first round, Messiah shut out Westfield State University, 4-0.  The national semifinals and final are scheduled for Friday and Saturday, December 1 and 2 at the UNC Greensboro Soccer Stadium in Greensboro, NC.
 
The Royals produced both goals in the first half.  Midfielder Brittany Uricchio (jr. Glastonbury, CT/Glastonbury) scored at 11:34 on a pass from midfielder Taylor Stevens (jr. Yardley, PA/Villa Joseph Marie).  A little over a minute later, forward Kelly Pompey (sr. South Abington Twp., PA/Scranton Prep) had the second marker and forward Mazie Stiles (fr. Nyack, NY/Albertus Magnus) registered the assist.
 
The Profs had an advantage in shots, 20-3 and corner kicks, 13-4.  Scranton goalkeeper Colleen Berry (jr. Ridgewood, NJ/Ridgewood) totaled 12 saves.
 
Rowan ends the season with a 12-3-3 record.  This was the Profs' 13th trip to the national tournament and the third straight.
