Football Struggles At #25 Salisbury In 33-0 Defeat

Box Score SALISBURY, MD – The Rowan University football team suffered a 33-0 loss at 25th-ranked Salisbury University in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) game on Saturday.
 
Salisbury quarterback Brandon Lewis (sr. Bel Air, MD/John Carroll) ran the ball 20 times for 125 yards and a touchdown. He also threw for one score. Slot Brady Curley (sr. Ellicott City, MD/Howard) had nine rushing attempts for 84 yards and a TD. Wide receiver Damien King (so. Lexington Park, MD/Leonardtown) and superback Dandre Dennis (sr. Pleasantville, NJ/Holy Spirit) each recorded one touchdown. Quarterback Jack Lanham (fr. Prince Frederick, MD/Calvert) saw time in the fourth quarter and tossed an 88-yard score to slot Blake Joppy (sr. Clarksburg, MD/Proctor Academy).
 
Linebacker Patrick Bernardo (so. Potomac, MD/Wootton) led the Sea Gulls' defense with 10 tackles. Linebacker Tom Montag (jr. Elkridge, MD/Long Reach) tallied nine stops and a forced fumble while defensive back Dakarai Ellis (sr. Capitol Heights, MD/Suitland) corralled seven tackles. Defensive back Shane Gaines (jr. Baltimore, MD/Owings Mills) posted one interception and linebacker Nour Mays (sr. Stockton, NJ/Delaware Valley) contributed with one sack.
 
The Profs are 3-5 overall and 2-5 in the conference. The Sea Gulls improve to 7-1 and stay unbeaten in the NJAC at 7-0.
 
Rowan running back John Mannion (jr. Verona, NJ/James Caldwell) rushed for 47 yards on 11 attempts and running back Anthony Diorio (jr. Medford, NJ/Shawnee) added 39 yards on 15 carries. Quarterback Quinn Collins (so. Elk Twp., NJ/Delsea Reg.) was 11-of-16 for 74 yards. Wide receiver Nick Grosso (so. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.) made five receptions while wideouts J.J. Kulcsar (so. Haworth, NJ/Bergen Catholic) and Jamel Smith (sr. Trenton, NJ/New Egypt) each caught four passes.
 
Linebackers Chris Noesges (sr. Freehold, NJ/Manalapan) and Godwin Asamoah (jr. Edison, NJ/Edison) registered six tackles apiece. Defensive end Kevin Stokes (jr. Mays Landing, NJ/Oakcrest), linebacker Dom Gadaleta (so. Wood-Ridge, NJ/Don Bosco Prep) and defensive backs Quincy Jenkins (so. Williamstown, NJ/Cherry Hill W.) and Joe DiBari (so. Cedar Grove, NJ/Cedar Grove) each totaled five stops. Linebackers Kyle Pierce (jr. Lawnside, NJ/Haddon Heights) and Anthony LaRosa (so. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.) and Noesges all forced one fumble.
 
Salisbury received the opening kickoff and went 75 yards on six plays. Curley reached the end zone with a 46-yard run and the extra point failed (11:47). The Profs had a chance to score on their first possession but missed a 39-yard field goal attempt wide right. Lewis ran in from nine yards out and the Sea Gulls were ahead 13-0 at the 6:58 mark of the second quarter. Salisbury had a backbreaking touchdown near the end of the first half when Lewis hit King for a 33-yard score (0:26), making it 20-0 at the intermission. The Sea Gulls added a pair of touchdowns in the fourth period.
 
Rowan plays its final home game on Saturday, Nov. 4 at 1 p.m. versus Montclair State University. The Profs will host Military Appreciation Day and active military and veterans with vaild ID will receive free admission.
