Box Score GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University women's soccer team advanced to the final of the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Championship Tournament on penalty kicks over Montclair State University on Wednesday night.
Rowan, the second seed, travels to the top seed The College of New Jersey on Saturday, Nov. 5 for the conference championship at 6 p.m.. In the semifinals, TCNJ shutout the fifth seed Kean University, 4-0. The NJAC champion receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament.
After two overtimes, the game ended in a scoreless draw. The Profs took the shootout 4-2. Rowan goalie
Shelby Money (so. Vineland, NJ/Vineland) ended the game with three saves.
Courtney Simpson (so. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) replaced Money in the net for the penalty kicks.
Montclair State had the first attempt. Back Erin Sullivan (sr. Bridgewater, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan) hit the right side of the Rowan net. Forward
Melissa Kelly (jr. Pine Brook, NJ/DePaul Catholic) made it 1-1 on Rowan's first kick. Simpson stopped the Red Hawks' second penalty kick. Forward
Maxine New (sr. Clayton, NJ/Clayton) put the Profs up 2-1 with a high shot just under the crossbar.
Back Brooke Beatty (jr. Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill E.) scored on Montclair State's third attempt and Money hit the back of the net for the Profs. Simpson saved the Red Hawks' fourth penalty kick. Forward
Shannon Reardigan (jr. Glassboro, NJ/Glassboro) put a shot into the right side of the Red Hawks' net to send Rowan to the conference championship.
The Profs are 15-1-2 overall while the Red Hawks have a 15-3-2 record. Rowan produced 23 total shots and Montclair State had nine. Red Hawks goalkeeper Molly Barrow (so. Ramsey, NJ/Ramsey) made eight saves.
