Box Score GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University field hockey team shut out Ramapo College in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) game on Wednesday night. It marked head coach Penny Kempf's 250th career win.
In 17 seasons, Kempf has a 250-79 record for a .760 winning percentage. Rowan has an 11-3 record with an eight-game win streak. The Profs are undefeated in the conference with a 4-0 mark. The Roadrunners are 2-14 overall and 0-5 in the NJAC.
Forward
Sam Browne (jr. West Milford, NJ/West Milford) led the team with three goals. Forward
Johanna James (jr. Gloucester City, NJ/Gloucester City) produced one goal and one assist. Forwards
Jenna Pressler (so. Medford, NJ/Shawnee) and
Courtney Aquino (so. Hammonton, NJ/Hammonton) each contributed with a goal while forward
Kellie Campbell (sr. Clark, NJ/Arthur L. Johnson) had an assist. Midfielder
Jenna O'Sullivan (sr. Sicklerville, NJ/Timber Creek Reg.) and back
Erika Mecchella (sr. Gloucester City, NJ/Gloucester City) registered one assist apiece.
Goalie
Carly DeMarco (fr. Gloucester City, NJ/Gloucester City) recorded her fourth shutout. This week, she was the conference's Rookie of the Week. For the Roadrunners, Emily Wisneski (fr. Denville, NJ/Morris Knolls) made six saves.
The Profs scored three goals in each half. Aquino started the scoring at 19:38 when she hit the top of the cage after a cross from the right side by Campbell. Pressler deflected Mecchella's shot for the second goal (21:15). Browne's first goal came at 31:36. She knocked the ball into the bottom right corner of the cage with an assist from James.
Browne then scored two straight goals in the final period. She tapped in a rebound (36:17) that came off Wisneski's pads. Her shot in front of the cage went into the lower left side (39:04). James tipped in O'Sullivan's shot for the final goal at 61:10.
Rowan travels to conference opponent Montclair State University on Saturday, October 25 for a 7 p.m. contest.
