Box Score UNION, NJ – Quarterback Bill McCarty's 33-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Ed Eisenhart as the second quarter expired was enough to give Rowan University a 7-6 conference victory over Kean University on Saturday.
The Profs are 7-2 overall and 5-1 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC). The Cougars have an overall mark of 2-7 and they are 1-5 in NJAC play.
Rowan's touchdown came after the Profs drove the ball 54 yards in six plays during the final 1:16 of the second quarter. Eisenhart (jr. Mullica Hill, NJ/Clearview Reg.) made two catches during the drive, including the touchdown.
Kean's kicker Bill Cullen (sr. Blairstown, NJ/North Warren) kicked a 35-yard field goal to make the score 7-3 at the beginning (14:55) of the fourth quarter. At the 10:01 mark, Cullen hit a 38-yard field goal, trimming the Rowan lead to 7-6.
McCarty (so. Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) was 9 of 15 for 106 yards. Running back Withler Marcelin (so. Ocean Twp., NJ/Ocean Twp.) ran the ball 24 times for 112 yards. Marcelin now has 1,054 rushing yards on the season, making it just the fourth time in Rowan history that a player has rushed for more than 1,000 yards. Eisenhart caught four passes for 54 yards.
On the defense, linebacker Darren Dungee (so. Morristown, NJ/Morristown) recorded 18 tackles. Defensive lineman Josh Popper (jr. Egg Harbor Twp., NJ/Holy Spirit) tallied 10 tackles and two tackles for a loss (-2 yards). Defensive lineman Chris Alvarez (jr. Cliffside Park, NJ/Cliffside Park) collected seven tackles, 1.5 for a loss (-3 yards) and forced a fumble.
For Kean, quarterback Robert Meade (so. Colonia, NJ/Bishop Ahr) completed 14 passes in 24 attempts for 134 yards. He also ran the ball 14 times for 37 yards. Running back Sean McKee (sr. Middletown, NJ/Middletown N.) carried the ball 21 times for 107 yards. Wideout Patrick Stewart (sr. Newark, NJ/University) made five catches for 55 yards, while tight end Jonathan Scmitt (so. Cliffside Park, NJ/Cliffside Park) had five receptions for 41 yards. Linebacker Tyler Jones (sr. Toms River, NJ/Toms River E.) and defensive lineman David Ricca (jr. Clifton, NJ/Clifton) each made seven tackles. Ricca also had 2.5 tackles for a loss (-5 yards).
Rowan will host The College of New Jersey in the regular season finale on November 15 at 7 p.m.
