Box Score BROCKPORT, NY – Rowan University linebacker Darren Dungee (so. Morristown, NJ/Morristown) intercepted a pass in the end zone in the final two minutes to seal a 20-16 victory over The College at Brockport.
The Profs are 3-1 overall and 2-0 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference, while the Golden Eagles have an overall mark of 1-3 and they are 0-1 in the conference. This will be the final time that Rowan will face Brockport as the Golden Eagles are leaving the NJAC following this season.
Quarterback Paul Hamersma (so. Tenafly, NJ/Tenafly) was 17 of 26 for 167 yards and a touchdown for Rowan. Running back Withler Marcelin (so. Ocean Twp., NJ/Ocean Twp) ran the ball 18 times for 58 yards, while running back Matt Dortch (sr. Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley) had 14 carries for 58 yards. Both players scored a touchdown. Wideout Ed Eisenhart (jr. Mullica Hill, NJ/Clearview Reg.) caught eight passes for 89 yards and one touchdown.
On the defense, lineman Chris Alvarez (jr. Cliffside Park, NJ/Cliffside Park) recorded 15 tackles, forced a fumble and had an interception. Linebackers Dominic Caruso (sr. Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill W.) and Dungee each had 11 tackles. Dungee also recovered a fumble.
For Brockport, quarterback Ty Stoldt (so. Alden, NY/Alden) was 26 of 48 for 247 yards and two touchdowns. Running back Tyrone Nichols (jr. Troy, NY/Lansingburgh) carried the ball 22 times for 63 yards, while wide receiver Jake Spalik (sr. Johnson City, NY/Johnson City) recorded five receptions for 66 yards and two touchdowns. Lineman Cortland Haines (fr. Jamestown, NY/Jamestown) tallied 10 tackles to lead the Golden Eagle defense.
Marcelin started the scoring for the Profs, running the ball in from 21 yards out for a 7-0 lead at 12:20 of the first quarter. The Profs used six plays to march 62 yards on the opening drive. That was the only scoring in the opening half.
Eisenhart caught a three-yard touchdown pass from Hamersma at 8:28 of the third quarter to take a 14-0 lead. The scoring play capped a 12-play, 76-yard drive. Dortch made the score 20-0 on a four yard touchdown run with 4:01 to play in the third. Rowan ran seven plays and went 42 yards on the scoring drive.
Brockport made the score 20-7 early in the fourth as Stoldt found Spalik for a nine yard touchdown on the 12
th play of a 65 yard drive. Stoldt and Spalik hooked up again for a six-yard touchdown with 7:05 to left to end a 12-play, 58-yard drive.
The Golden Eagles got the ball back with 3:40 on the clock and were driving. On third down, Dungee tackled running back Dan Andrews (fr. Rochester, NY/Franklin) for a seven-yard loss. Then on fourth down, Dungee intercepted Stoldt in the end zone. On the ensuing drive, Hamersma ran out of the end zone to burn the clock and take the safety.
Rowan will be on the road again on Saturday, October 12 as to face Morrisville State College for a noon kickoff.
