Women's Soccer Rolls Over New Jersey City University, 6-0

GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University women’s soccer team rolled over conference opponent New Jersey City University, 6-0 on Saturday afternoon.

With a four game win streak, the Profs are 5-1 overall and 2-0 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC).  This week, Rowan was ranked ninth in the South Atlantic Region.  The Gothic Knights have a 3-5-2 record with a 1-2 conference mark.

Forward/midfielder Morgan Murracco (sr. Washington Twp., NJ/Paul VI) scored two goals.  Midfielder Jess Durnian (so. Brick, NJ/Brick Twp.), midfielder Michele Ercolano (sr. Emerson, NJ/Paramus Catholic), forward Dayna Sakalsky (jr. Long Valley, NJ/West Morris Central) and midfielder Michelle Borghese (sr. Middletown, NJ/Middletown N.) all found the net one time.  Ercolano also had an assist along with back Victoria Camera (so. Hamilton, NJ/Hamilton W.) and midfielder Nina Fragoso (sr. Franklinville, NJ/Delsea Reg.).

Rowan accumulated 34 shots while New Jersey City took six.  Goalkeepers Maria Dorris (sr. Mantua, NJ/Clearview Reg.) and Katina Anthony (sr. Cherry Hill, NJ/Haddon Twp.) shared the shutout.  Dorris played 73:48 and made four saves.  Anthony was in goal for 16:12.  For the Gothic Knights, goalie Brittany Hoffman (so. McMurray, PA/Peters Twp.) stopped 14 shots.

All of the scoring came in the first half.  Durnian produced the first goal at 8:03.  She had a breakaway and blasted a high shot that went in just under the middle of the crossbar.  Muracco’s first goal was at 9:10.  Ercolano crossed the ball from the right side of the box to Muracco who knocked it into the upper left corner.  At 9:51, Ercolano hit the right side of the net for the third goal. 

Muracco registered her second goal at 25:58.  From the left, Fragoso sent the ball to Muracco who shot the ball into the net’s right side.  Camera had a feed up the right side of the field to Borghese who then had a breakaway and she hit the bottom right corner at 32:06.  Sakalsky scored the last goal at 38:28.  She dribbled around Hoffman and shot the ball into an empty net.       

Next week, Rowan plays at Richard Stockton College on Wednesday, September 26 at 6 p.m.
