CAMDEN, NJ – The Rowan University women’s soccer team had a 4-0 shutout at conference opponent Rutgers-Camden on Wednesday night.
The Profs are 4-1 overall and they are 1-0 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC). This week, Rowan is ranked ninth in the South Atlantic Region. The Scarlet Raptors have a 2-5-1 record with a 0-1-1 conference mark.
Rowan was ahead 1-0 after the first half. Forward Erika Suhl (so. Brick, NJ/Brick Mem.) produced an unassisted goal at 24:17. Her shot went in the left side of the goal. It was her seventh on the season. Midfielder Nina Fragoso (sr. Franklinville, NJ/Delsea Reg.) made it 2-0 at 59:31 with a penalty kick.
Midfielder Dayna Sakalsky (jr. Long Valley, NJ/West Morris Central) hit the net 58 seconds later. She knocked in a pass from back Chelsea Eckel (so. Jackson, NJ/Jackson Mem.) inside the box. With 32 ticks left on the clock, forward Becca Labinger (fr. Aberdeen, NJ/Matawan Reg.) registered the final goal, which was the first of her college career. She had a shot from the right side that went into the upper left of the goal.
Rowan recorded 27 shots while Rutgers-Camden only had one. Goalkeeper Maria Dorris (sr. Mantua, NJ/Clearview Reg.) recorded her fourth shutout. She was named this week’s NJAC Defensive Player of the Week. For the Scarlet Raptors, goalie Lauren West (jr. Mantua, NJ/Clearview Reg.) stopped 10 shots in 63:01. Goalie Leighanna Milby (jr. Blackwood, NJ/Highland Reg.) played 26:59 and made two saves.
