GALLOWAY, NJ – The Rowan University women’s outdoor track and field team won the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Championship on Saturday.  The conference championships were held at Richard Stockton College.

Rowan totaled 203.50 points among the nine NJAC teams.  It is the Profs’ second conference title and first since 1992.  Rowan broke The College of New Jersey’s steak of 19 straight NJAC Championships.

Melirah Searcy (fr. Edison, NJ/Edison) won the 400 meters with a school record time of 57.59.  She surpassed the previous mark of 58.55 by Laiton Roberts (1993).  She also finished second (1:04.54) in the 400 meter hurdles.  Jenn Rawls (jr. Runnemede, NJ/Highland Reg.) was the winner in the 5000 meters with a time of 17:40.01.  Vanessa Wright (so. Haddonfield, NJ/Haddonfield Mem.) captured first (39:21.69) in the 10,000 meters. 

In the field events, Magan Kustera (so. West Deptford, NJ/West Deptford) and Sam Kamper (so. Middletown, NJ/Middletown N.) were first (5’4.25”, 1.63 meters) and second (5’0.25”, 1.53 meters) in the high jump respectively.  Emily Spieker (jr. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) took first in the hammer throw with a distance of 127’11” (38.98 meters).  Melissa Lake (fr. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) came in first in the javelin with 130’3” (39.70 meters).

The 4x400 meter relay of Tashay Wilson (fr. Hillside, NJ/Hillside), Brianna Streater (fr. Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown), Alexus Streater (fr. Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) and Searcy was second with a time of 3:57.07.  Rowan placed third (49.14) in the 4x100 meter relay with Wilson, Jamie Thompson (so. Monmouth Jct., NJ/South Brunswick), Shantel Beckford (fr. Piscataway, NJ/Piscataway) and Jessica Carlson (so. Manahawkin, NJ/Southern Reg.).

Jena Peacock (sr. Williamstown, NJ/Our Lady of Mercy Academy) finished second (4:41.52) in the 1500 meters and third (2:19.12) in the 800 meters.  Danielle Czhola (sr. Lafayette, NJ/High Point Reg.) came in second (11:24.43) in the 3000 meter steeplechase and fifth (18:31.91) in the 5000 meters.  Thompson was second in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 14.91.  Rawls captured fourth place (4:49.93) in the 1500 meters, followed by Ashlee Hitchner (fr. Mullica Hill, NJ/Delsea Reg.), seventh (4:59.26) and Eileen O’Mara (sr. Haddonfield, NJ/Haddon Twp.), 11th (5:22.41).

Beckford took fourth in the 100 meters (12.49) and triple jump (36’5.5”, 11.11 meters).  She was also 13th (27.10) in the 200 meters.  Ashley White (jr. West Deptford, NJ/West Deptford) was fourth in the 10,000 meters with a time of 40:37.70.  Carlson and Chamberlain were fourth (15.25) and eighth (16.47) in the 100 meter hurdles respectively.  Carlson also placed seventh in the triple jump with 34’11.75” (10.66 meters) and 15th (27.33) in the 200 meters.  Thompson had fourth places in the 400 meter hurdles (1:05.69) and the long jump (17’0.75”, 5.20 meters). 

Sarah Dores (so. Maple Shade, NJ/Holy Cross) finished third in the javelin with a throw of 122’11” (37.46 meters).  In the shot put, Jess Lomonaco (so. Blackwood, NJ/Triton Reg.) came in fifth (35’0.25”, 10.67 meters), followed by Arielle Moore (so. Blackwood, NJ/Highland Reg.), seventh (33’8”, 10.26 meters), Spieker, 10th (32’1.5”, 9.79 meters) and Steph Greco (jr. Monmouth Jct., NJ/South Brunswick), 12th (31’8.5”, 9.66 meters).  Tempeste Johnson (sr. Burlington, NJ/Burlington Twp.) tied for fifth in the discus with 114’9.5” (34.99 meters).  Spieker took seventh (112’1”, 34.16 meters), Lomonaco was eighth (107’3”, 32.68 meters) and Greco had an 11th place (91’5.5”, 27.87 meters).  Lomonaco also captured sixth in the hammer throw with a toss of 121’5” (37.01 meters).

In the 800 meters, Brianna Streater came in fifth (2:21.30).  Hitcher and Alexus Streater were seventh (2:23.04) and 10th (2:24.15) respectively.  Deana Wood (fr. Voorhees, NJ/Eastern Reg.) recorded a sixth place (41:39.30) finish in the 10000 meters and Joy Hanke (jr. Cranford, NJ/Cranford) was seventh (42:00.27).  Wilson was sixth (1:00.22) in the 400 meters and eighth (26.50) in the 200 meters.  Meghan Borz (so. Buena, NJ/Buena Reg.) had a sixth place in the 5000 meters with a time of 18:53.30. 

Christina Huynh (jr. Lake Hiawatha, NJ/Parsippany) captured 12th (1:02.58) in the 400 meters.  In the 5000 meters, Catherine Nolan (fr. Egg Harbor Twp., NJ/Holy Spirit) and Brenda Mendez (fr. Glassboro, NJ/Delsea Reg.) placed 11th (19:23.23) and 12th (19:32.20) respectively.  Francesca Contino (jr. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.) took 12th in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:13.36.

Rowan travels to Swarthmore, PA for the Swarthmore Last Chance Qualifier on Monday, May 14 at 5 p.m.
