PHILADELPHIA, PA – The Rowan University men’s outdoor track and field team competed at the University of Pennsylvania Invitational on Saturday. The meet was held at Franklin Field.
Brandon Taylor (jr. Woodstown, NJ/Woodstown) won the 100 meters with a career best of 10.81. His previous fastest time was 11.00 at the 2011 Wake Forest Open. Demetrius Rooks (jr. Galloway, NJ/Absegami) was the winner in the 400 meter hurdles with a season best of 52.39. He surpassed his previous top time of 42.92 at the Danny Curran Invitational (Mar. 31). Steven Iafrate (so. Closter, NJ/Demarest) took first in the javelin with a distance of 187’2” (57.05 meters).
The 4x400 meter relay had a winning time of 3:15.90. The relay consisted of Taylor Purdue (jr. Highland Lakes, NJ/Vernon Twp.), Jayce Maxwell (sr. Toms River, NJ/Monsignor Donovan), Ali Ejaz (jr. Glassboro, NJ/Glassboro) and Rooks. The 4x100 and 4x800 meter relay had second places in 42.82 and 8:01.05 respectively. The 4x100 meter relay was comprised of Taylor, Purdue, Josh McGriff (jr. Flemington, NJ/Hunterdon Central Reg.) and Ejaz. Mike Lewis (fr. Glen Mills, PA/Downingtown W.), Mike Carotenuto (jr. Port Monmouth, NJ/Middletown N.), Jesse Spector (fr. Rockaway, NJ/Morris Hills) and Dave Quimby (fr. Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape) made up the 4x800 meter relay.
Adam Diekewicz (sr. Glassboro, NJ/Glassboro) captured second place in the pole vault with a height of 14’5.25” (4.40 meters). Frank Visconti (jr. Berlin, NJ/Eastern Reg.) came in fourth in the shot put with a toss of 46’8.25” (14.23 meters). In the discus, Jason Jenkins (so. Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough) and Visconti were fifth (135’4”, 41.26 meters) and seventh (133’7”, 40.71 meters) respectively.
Jerry Dalce (fr. Willingboro, NJ/Burlington County Institute of Technology) placed fourth in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 15.79. Carotenuto took fifth (1:55.53) in the 800 meters, followed by Rob Buzby (fr. Medford, NJ/Shawnee), 28th (2:06.74). Buzby also came in 15th (4:21.60) in the 1500 meters.
Rob Rawls (fr. Runnemede, NJ/Triton Reg.) finished sixth in the 3000 meters in 8:50.83. Stephen Hoffman (sr. Ocean City, NJ/Ocean City) captured eighth (8:53.76), Jon Sewnig (fr. Yardville, NJ/Notre Dame) was 12th (9:02.13) and Ethan Wolmark (so. Medford, NJ/Shawnee) had a 17th place (9:18.86). In the 400 meters, Purdue and McGriff were 11th (50.87) and 16th (51.58) respectively.
Rowan will compete at the Johns Hopkins Invitational in Baltimore, MD on Saturday, April 14.
