BALTIMORE, MD – The Rowan University men’s track and field team finished in third place at the Hopkins/Loyola Invitational on Saturday. The invitational was held at Johns Hopkins University.
Steven Iafrate (so. Closter, NJ/Demarest) won the javelin with a throw of 184’ 5” (56.22 meters). Adam Diekiewicz (sr. Glassboro, NJ/Glassboro) captured first in the pole vault. He had a career best of 14’ 5.5” (4.41 meters). Mike Carotenuto (jr. Port Monmouth, NJ/Middletown N.) was the winner (3:57.75) in the 1500 meters and Eric DuBois (sr. Pittsgrove, NJ/A.P. Schalick) followed second (3:58.78). Carotenuto’s time was a career best.
Rowan’s 4x400 meter relay came in second with a time of 3:21.68. The 4x400 included Will Alston (jr. Matawan, NJ/Matawan Reg.), Jayce Maxwell (sr. Toms River, NJ/Monsignor Donovan), Taylor Purdue (jr. Highland Lakes, NJ/Vernon Twp.) and Ali Ejaz (jr. Glassboro, NJ/Glassboro). The Profs were third in the 4x100 meter relay with Brandon Taylor (jr. Woodstown, NJ/Woodstown), Jerry Dalce (fr. Willingboro, NJ/Burlington County Institute of Technology), Marcus Rawls (so. North Brunswick, NJ/Florence Twp. Mem.) and Ejaz. They ran 42.44, which was a top time on the season.
Taylor came in second (11.24) in the 100 meters. Frank Visconti (jr. Berlin, NJ/Eastern Reg.) took second in the shot put with a throw of 46’ 6.25” (14.18 meters). Visconti also had a sixth place in the discus with 134’ (40.84 meters).
Dalce captured third (16.69) in the 110 meter hurdles and Dave Quimby (fr. Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape) was third (1:55.98) in the 800 meters. In the 200 meters, Ejaz ran 22.25 for third place while Taylor and Maxwell were fifth (22.29) and sixth (22.37) respectively. Joe Mineo (jr. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.) took third place in the high jump with 6’ 0.75” (1.85 meters).
Jon Sewnig (fr. Yardville, NJ/Notre Dame) came in fifth in the 5000 meters with a time of 15:40.94, which was a career best. Jake McCormack (sr. Cliffwood, NJ/Matawan Reg.) finished seventh in 15:45.11. Rawls tied for fifth (11.38) in the 100 meters.
Jack Curry (so. Roosevelt, NJ/Hightstown) took seventh (38’ 8.75”, 11.80 meters) in the triple jump, tied for eighth (5’ 10.75”, 1.80 meters) in the high jump and 15th (18’ 0.5”, 5.50 meters) in the long jump. Jason Jenkins (so. Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough) was eighth (131’ 7”, 40.11 meters) in the discus.
Alston had a ninth place (51.76) in the 400 meters. Stephen Hoffman (sr. Ocean City, NJ/Ocean City) finished 14th (4:10.27) in the 1500 meters while Ethan Wolmark (so. Medford, NJ/Shawnee) and Mike Lewis (fr. Glen Mills, PA/Downingtown W.) were 16th (4:11.27) and 17th (4:12.08) respectively. Wolmark also had a 17th place (2:02.73) in the 800 meters.
Next week, Rowan has the Collegiate Track Conference Championships on Saturday and Sunday, April 21 and 22 at DeSales University in Center Valley, PA.
