GRINNELL, IA – The Rowan University men’s 4x400 meter relay took third place at the NCAA Division III Indoor Championships for All-America honors. The national championships were held at Grinnell College’s Charles Benson Bear ’39 Recreation and Athletic Center Field House.
The 4x400 meter relay of Jayce Maxwell (sr. Toms River, NJ/Monsignor Donovan), Taylor Purdue (jr. Highland Lakes, NJ/Vernon Twp.), Ali Ejaz (jr. Glassboro, NJ/Glassboro) and Demetrius Rooks (jr. Galloway, NJ/Absegami) had a timeof 3:19.20. The Profs finished second in heat one, which was won by Wis.-Whitewater in 3:18.39 who was later disqualified because a runner stepped on the line. In heat two, the national champion North Central College had a time of 3:16.11 followed by second place Wis.-Eau Claire in 3:16.35.
This season, Rowan’s best time came at the Eastern College Athletic Conference Championships (Mar. 3). The 4x400 finished second in 3:16.34. Rowan was the 10
th team to qualify for nationals with a converted time of 3:18.34. Last year, Maxwell, Purdue, Ejaz and Rooks were national champions in the 4x400 meter relay (3:11.45) at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
Prior to the 4x400 meter relay, Eric DuBois (sr. Pittsgrove, NJ/A.P. Schalick) finished 12
th in the 5000 meters with a time of 15:13.53. His qualifying time for nationals came at the ECAC Championships (Mar. 2). DuBois won the 5000 meters in 14:33.13 on the banked track and the converted time was14:36.73.
The 5000 meters was won by Wis.-Stout’s Tim Nelson with a field house record time of 14:11.80. North Central College took first place in the team scoring with 48 points while Wis.-Eau Claire and Wis.-Oshkosh were second (37) and third (32) respectively. Wis.-Stout came in fourth (28) while the University of St. Thomas and Wis.-La Crosse were tied for fifth (27). Rowan finished tied for 27
th place out of 60 schools. The Profs only competed in two events.
