NJAC Championship Results
NEW YORK, NY – The Rowan University men’s indoor track team finished third at the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Championships on Friday. The conference championships were held at the New Balance Track & Field Center at The Armory.
Eric DuBois (sr. Pittsgrove, NJ/A.P. Schalick) won the 3000 meters with a career best time in 8:40.08. His time was also better than the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championships qualifier of 8:50.00. He finished second in the one mile run in 4:14.57, which was a career best and ECAC standard (4:22.00). Demetrius Rooks (jr. Galloway, NJ/Absegami) ran a season top time of 48.92 for first place in the 400 meters. He qualified (50.70) for the ECAC Championships. The 4x400 meter relay came in first (3:18.55) with Jayce Maxwell (sr. Toms River, NJ/Monsignor Donovan), Taylor Purdue (jr. Highland Lakes, NJ/Vernon Twp.), Ali Ejaz (jr. Glassboro, NJ/Glassboro) and Rooks. Their time was a season best and an ECAC qualifier (3:26.50).
The distance medley relay ran a winning time of 10:33.09 while the 4x200 meter relay came in second (1:30.21). Ethan Wolmark (so. Medford, NJ/Shawnee), Josh McGriff (jr. Flemington, NJ/Hunterdon Central Reg.), Dave Quimby (fr. Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape) and Stephen Hoffman (sr. Ocean City, NJ/Ocean City) made up the distance medley relay. Both relays qualified for the ECACs (distance medley – 10:38.00, 4x200 – 1:34.00). The 4x200 consisted of Brandon Taylor (jr. Woodstown, NJ/Woodstown), Phil Guilford (fr. Atlantic City, NJ/Buena Reg.), Purdue and Ejaz. The 4x800 meter relay came in second (8:04.86) with Mike Lewis (fr. Glen Mills, PA/Downingtown W.), Quimby, Jesse Spector (fr. Rockaway, NJ/Morris Hills) and Mike Carotenuto (jr. Port Monmouth, NJ/Middletown N.). Their time was a season best and an ECAC qualifier (8:09.00).
Maxwell produced a second place (49.91) in the 400 meters and qualified (50.70) for the ECACs. Ejaz finished second in the 200 meters in 22.26. His time was a career best and an ECAC qualifier (22.80). In the one mile run, Carotenuto finished third (4:19.21) and Rob Rawls (fr. Runnemede, NJ/Triton Reg.) was fifth (4:23.78). Cartenuto’s time was an ECAC qualifier (4:22.00). Jon Sewnig (fr. Yardville, NJ/Notre Dame) came in third (9:05.59) in the 3000 meters and Hoffman was fifth (9:07.83). Taylor’s time of 7.09 in the 60 meters took fourth.
Adam Diekewicz (so. Glassboro, NJ/Glassboro) had a third place in the pole vault with a height of 14’ 5.25” (4.40 meters). Frank Visconti (jr. Berlin, NJ/Eastern Reg.) came in third in the shot put. He had a toss of 44’ 9.75” (13.66 meters). Joe Mineo (so. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.) finished fifth in the high jump with 6’ 2” (1.88 meters).
Jeff Tauriello (so. Florham Park, NJ/Hanover Park) came in sixth (16:08.65) in the 5000 meters while Rob Buzby (fr. Medford, NJ/Shawnee) was eighth (16:41.13). Lewis finished sixth (1:59.60) in the 800 meters. His time was a season best. Jack Curry (so. Roosevelt, NJ/Highstown) came in seventh in the triple jump with 41’ 4.25” (12.60 meters), which was a season best. Guilford tied for ninth (51.32) in the 400 meters.
Next week, Rowan returns to The Armory for the ECAC Championships on Friday-Saturday, March 2-3. The championships start at 11 a.m. on Friday and 10 a.m. on Saturday.
