PRINCETON, NJ – The Rowan University men’s indoor track team competed at the Princeton University Invitational on Saturday.
The Profs won the 4x400 meter relay in 3:20.15, which was a season best and an Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) qualifier (3:26.50). The relay included Jayce Maxwell (sr. Toms River, NJ/Monsignor Donovan), Taylor Purdue (jr. Highland Lakes, NJ/Vernon Twp.), Ali Ejaz (jr. Glassboro, NJ/Glassboro) and Demetrius Rooks (jr. Galloway, NJ/Absegami). Eric DuBois (sr. Pittsgrove, NJ/A.P. Schalick) ran a winning time of 4:16.36 in the one mile run. He qualified for the ECACs (4:22.00) and it was his top time on the year. DuBois also had a fourth place (1:59.49) in the 800 meters.
Joe Mineo (so. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.) came in second in the high jump. He had a height of 6’ 2.75” (1.90 meters). Jesse Spector (fr. Rockaway, NJ/Morris Hills) produced a second place (2:45.47) in the 1000 meters. Mike Carotenuto (jr. Port Monmouth, NJ/Middletown N.) took third (1:58.59) in the 800 meters while Mike Lewis (fr. Glen Mills, PA/Downingtown N.) finished sixth (1:59.88) and Dave Quimby (fr. Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape) was eighth (2:00.57). Lewis and Quimby each recorded a season best time.
In the 3000 meters, Stephen Hoffman (sr. Ocean City, NJ/Ocean City) came in fourth (8:58.77) and Jon Sewnig (fr. Yardville, NJ/Notre Dame) took sixth (9:12.10). Hoffman’s time was his best on the year. Ethan Wolmark (so. Medford, NJ/Shawnee) had an eighth place (9:29.63) followed by Rob Buzby (fr. Medford, NJ/Shawnee) ninth (9:32.07). Ejaz had a time of 22.56 in the 200 meter dash for fifth place. His time was an ECAC qualifier (22.80). Maxwell came in 10th (23.02) while Phil Guilford (fr. Atlantic City, NJ/Buena Reg.) and Brandon Taylor (jr. Woodstown, NJ/Woodstown) were 12th (23.29) and 13th (23.36) respectively. Taylor also took ninth (7.17) in the 60 meter dash and Marcus Rawls (so. North Brunswick, NJ/Florence Twp. Mem.) was 13th (7.30).
Frank Visconte (jr. Berlin, NJ/Eastern Reg.) finished eighth in the shot put with a throw of 45’ 2.50” (13.78 meters). In the 400 meters, Purdue and Josh McGriff (jr. Flemington, NJ/Hunterdon Central Reg.) were 10th (52.17) and 13th (52.41) respectively.
Next, Rowan will compete at the New Jersey Athletic Conference Championships on Friday, February 24. The conference championships will be held at the New Balance Track & Field Center at The Armory in New York City at 11 a.m.
