Rowan Football Beats Montclair State, 33-7

MONTCLAIR, NJ – Quarterback Louie Bianchini threw for 268 yards and four touchdowns to lead Rowan University to a 33-7 win over Montclair State University in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) game on Saturday afternoon.

The Profs improve to 5-1 overall and 4-0 in the conference.  The Red Hawks have a 2-4 record with a 2-2 NJAC mark.  Bianchini (sr. West Long Branch, NJ/Red Bank Catholic) completed 14 of 19 pass attempts.  Running back Withler Marcelin (fr. Ocean Twp., NJ/Ocean Twp.) ran for 55 yards on nine carries and caught two passes for 68 yards.  Running back Keith Corcoran (sr. Atlantic City, NJ/St. Joseph (Hammonton)) rushed for 34 yards and a touchdown on 20 carries.  He also had two receptions for 18 yards and one touchdown.  Wide receiver Ed Eisenhart (so. Mullica Hill, NJ/Clearview Reg.) made four catches for 105 yards and one touchdown.  Wideout Warren Oliver (jr. Beverly, NJ/Palymyra) added 41 yards and touchdown with four grabs, while wide receiver Anthony Barone (sr. Hammonton, NJ/Hammonton) added a 27 yard touchdown reception.

Linebacker Patrick Ruley (sr. Margate, NJ/Atlantic City) led the defense with eight tackles (four solo, four assisted), 1.5 tackles for a loss (-6 yards) and one pass breakup.  Cornerback Frank Rubino (sr. Belle Mead, NJ/Montgomery), defensive tackles Steve Williams (sr. Westmont, NJ/Haddon Twp.), safety Casey Dillon (sr. Northfield, NJ/Mainland Reg.)  and linebacker Darren Dungee (fr. Morristown, NJ/Morristown) each had five tackles.  Linebacker Dominic Caruso (jr. Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill W.) registered four stops (one solo, four assisted), one tackle for a loss (-6 yards), two pass breakups and one interception.

For the Red Hawks, quarterback Drew Cathey (sr. East Rutherford, NJ/Becton Reg.) had 14 completions in 31 attempts for 115 yards and one touchdown.  Running back Bill Roman (jr. Annandale, NJ/St. Peter’s Prep) carried the ball 24 times for 107 yards.  Wide receiver Bryan Ogden (sr. Wayne, NJ/Wayne Hills) contributed with seven catches for 59 yards.  Wideout Vin Fischer (sr. Livingston, NJ/Livingston) made two grabs for 20 yards and one touchdown.

Linebacker Michael Klimek (fr. Cranford, NJ/Cranford) totaled 10 tackles (two solo, eight assisted) and one tackle for a loss (-3 yards).  Defensive backs C.J. Conway (so. Folsom, NJ/Hammonton) and Bill Shimko (so. Manahawkin, NJ/Southern Reg.) and linebacker Marc Aspinwall (jr. Little Ferry, NJ/Ridgefield Park) all contributed with seven tackles.  Shimko also had one interception.  Defensive lineman Kevin Barnes (so. Long Valley, NJ/West Morris Central) forced a fumble and blocked a kick.  Defensive back Rashad White (fr. Teaneck, NJ/Teaneck) recovered one fumble.


The Profs took a 6-0 lead at 8:11 in the first quarter on a 38 yard touchdown pass from Bianchini to Eisenhart.  The extra point attempt failed.  Rowan started on its own 46 yard line.  In the drive, Bianchini threw for 54 yards with three completions in three attempts.  The Red Hawks went ahead, 7-6 following a 10 yard touchdown grab by Fischer at 1:09.  Cathey completed two passes (two attempts) for 20 yards and Roman added two rushes for 24 yards.

At 13:57 in the second, Corcoran found the end zone with a one yard touchdown carry to give Rowan a 13-7 advantage.  Rowan began at its 20 yard line.  Eisenhart hauled in two balls for 63 yards.  Tight end Chris Garcia (sr. Belle Mead, NJ/Montgomery) added a nine yard grab and Corcoran had two runs for two yards.  Barone made a 27 yard touchdown reception at 5:41.  The Profs took over on the Red Hawks’ 41 yard line.  Marcelin had a 14 yard catch on the first down.  Barone’s touchdown came on the next play. 

Bianchini completed a 15 yard touchdown pass to Oliver at 3:10.  Rowan started at the Montclair State 15 yard line following a 21 yard punt return by wide receiver Dan Reed (sr. Haddon Twp., NJ/Haddon Twp.).  Oliver found the end zone on the next play.  Corcoran caught a seven yard touchdown as time expired.  The score was 33-7 at halftime following a blocked extra point attempt by Barnes.  In the drive, Bianchini threw a 54 yard pass to Marcelin and Corcoran had three carries for 10 yards in the drive. 

Rowan has a bye next week.  The Profs travel to NJAC opponent SUNY Cortland on Saturday, October 20 at noon.
