NEW YORK, NY – The Rowan University men’s and women’s track teams opened the indoor season at the New York City Gotham Cup on Friday. The meet included teams from all NCAA Divisions and was held at the New Balance Track & Field Center at The Armory.
Jena Peacock (sr. Williamstown, NJ/Our Lady of Mercy Academy) won the one mile run unseeded and was on the winning distance medley relay. She recorded a time of 5:08.95 in the one mile. The distance medley relay finished in 12:15.99. Peacock ran the first leg of the relay and was followed by Kayla Leahey (so. Keansburg, NJ/Warwick Valley), Melirah Searcy (fr. Edison, NJ/Edison) and Vanessa Wright (so. Haddonfield, NJ/Haddonfield Mem.).
Mike Carotenuto (jr. Port Monmouth, NJ/Middletown N.) took third place (4:19.35) in the one mile run unseeded. In the 5000 meters, Eric DuBois (sr. Pittsgrove, NJ/A.P. Schalick) came in third (14.59.12) while Jake McCormack (sr. Cliffwood, NJ/Matawan Reg.) and Jeff Tauriello (so Florham Park, NJ/Hanover Park) were 14th (15:40.18) and 22nd (15:55.96) respectively.
The women’s 4x800 meter relay took fourth place (10:04.97) and the 4x400 meter relay was 24th (4:26.05). The 4x800 included Alexus Streater (fr. Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown), Samantha Stapleton (so. Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown), Brianna Streater (fr. Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) and Ashlee Hitchner (fr. Mullica Hill, NJ/Delsea Reg.). Tashay Wilson (fr. Hillside, NJ/Hillside), Shantel Beckford (fr. Piscataway, NJ/Piscataway), Christina Huynh (jr. Lake Hiawatha, NJ/Parsippany) and Francesca Contino (jr. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.) were on the 4x400 relay.
In the 3000 meters, Sammar Abueldoleh (fr. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.) finished 14th (10:50.53) and Ashley White (jr. West Deptford, NJ/West Deptford) was 24th (11:13.19). Hitchner (fr. Mullica Hill, NJ/Delsea Reg.) came in 17th (3:05.27) in the 1000 meters. Searcy had a 20th place (1:21.75) in the 500 meters.
The men’s 4x800 meter relay took eighth place (8:22.26) with Carotenuto, Will Alston (jr. Matawan, NJ/Matawan Reg.), Jon Sewnig (fr. Yardville, NJ/Notre Dame) and Jesse Spector (fr. Rockaway, NJ/Morris Hills). The 4x400 meter relay finished 16th with a time of 3:29.95. The relay consisted of Phil Guilford (fr. Atlantic City, NJ/Buena Reg.), Taylor Purdue (jr. Highland Lakes, NJ/Vernon Twp.), Jayce Maxwell (sr. Toms River, NJ/Monsignor Donovan) and Ali Ejaz (jr. Glassboro, NJ/Glassboro).
Adam Diekewicz (so. Glassboro, NJ/Glassboro) tied for fifth place in the pole vault. He had a height of 14’ 9” (4.50 meters). Frank Visconti (jr. Berlin, NJ/Eastern Reg.) came in eighth in the shot put with a throw of 41’ 1.5” (12.53 meters). Brandon Taylor (jr. Woodstown, NJ/Woodstown) tied for 19th in the long jump unseeded. He had a leap of 19’ 4.75” (5.91 meters).
Magan Kustera (so. West Deptford, NJ/West Deptford) tied for 13th in the high jump with 5’ 1” (1.55 meters). Jessica Carlson (so. Manahawkin, NJ/Southern Reg.) came in 10th in the triple jump unseeded with 34’ 2.75” (10.43 meters). Leahey finished 13th in the pole vault with 10’ 4” (3.15 meters).
Next week, Rowan travels to Ursinus College on Friday, January 20 for the Collegeville Classic at 3 p.m.
