BROCKPORT, NY – Quarterback Louie Bianchini threw three touchdowns to lead Rowan University to a 39-32 come-from-behind victory over The College at Brockport in a New Jersey Athletic Conference game on Saturday.
Rowan trailed 32-24 after the third quarter. Bianchini (so. West Long Branch, NJ/Red Bank Catholic) completed a 34 yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Anthony Barone (sr. Hammonton, NJ/Hammonton) at 11:05 in the fourth. The Profs converted the two-point conversion pass from Bianchini to tight end Kevin DelleDonne (sr. Summit, NJ/Summit), which tied the score (32-32). Rowan started on the Brockport 49 yard line. Running back Keith Corcoran (jr. Atlantic City, NJ/St. Joseph (Hammonton)) had a six yard run and Biachini added a three yard rush. DelleDonne hauled in a six yard reception prior to the touchdown.
With 7:13 remaining in the game, Corcoran broke free on a 10 yard touchdown scamper. Kicker Tommy Wilczynski (sr. Pine Hill, NJ/Overbrook) nailed the extra point to put Rowan up, 39-32. The Profs took over on the Gold Eagles’ 14 yard line following an interception by safety Eric Sharkey (sr. Manahawkin, NJ/Southern Reg.).
Rowan improves to 1-1, while The College at Brockport has a 0-2 record. It was the first conference game for both teams. Bianchini finished with 245 yards passing with 24 completions in 39 attempts. Corcoran ran for 47 yards and one touchdown on 13 attempts. Running back Steve Hevalow (sr. Galloway, NJ/Absegami) contributed with 44 yards and one touchdown on 10 touches. Wide receiver Eddie Eisenhart (fr. Mullica Hill, NJ/Clearview Reg.) made seven catches for 80 yards and a touchdown. Barone compiled 62 yards and one touchdown with seven grabs. Wideout Dan Reed (so. Westmont, NJ/Haddon Twp.) added four receptions for 63 yards and one touchdown.
Safety Jack Buckley (sr. Phillipsburg, NJ/Phillipsburg) registered seven tackles (five solo, two assisted) and two tackles for a loss (-6 yards). Cornerbacks Frank Rubino (jr. Belle Mead, NJ/Montgomery) and Mookie Holland (fr. Millville, NJ/Millville), linebacker Dean Hammel (sr. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.) and defensive end Chris Popper (jr. Egg Harbor Twp., NJ/Holy Spirit) made six stops apiece. Rubino had an interception and blocked a kick, while Hammel chipped in with one sack (-7 yards). Sharkey collected two interceptions and cornerback Mark Kinney (sr. Sicklerville, NJ/Winslow Twp.) had one. Defensive tackle Steve Williams (jr. Westmont, NJ/Haddon Twp.) forced a fumble.
For Brockport, quarterback Joe Scibilia (jr. North Tonawanda, NY/Starpoint) had 17 completions in 29 attempts for 240 yards and two touchdowns prior to leaving the game with an injury in the fourth quarter. Running back Tyrone Nichols (fr. Troy, NY/Troy) compiled 57 yards and one touchdown on 14 rushes. Wide receiver Jordan Hogan (jr. Lockport, NY/Newfane) hauled in five balls for 126 yards and a touchdown. Wideout Andrew Mrozek (fr. Depew, NY/Lancaster) had 58 yards and one touchdown with five catches.
Linebacker Alex Hayes (sr. Phoenix, NY/John C. Birdlebough) posted a game-high 11 tackles (three solo, eight assisted). He also had two tackles for a loss (-12 yards) and one sack (-11 yards). Defensive back Maurice Brown (fr. Brooklyn, NY/Grand Street Campus) made 10 stops (six solo, four assisted). Defensive end Mike Kaiser (sr. Attica, NY/Attica) tallied three tackles for a loss (-14 yards) and one sack (-7 yards). Safety Ross Ragonesi (so. East Northport, NY/Northport) had a 35 yard interception return for a touchdown.
Rowan took a 3-0 lead at 5:14 in the first quarter on a 24 yard field goal by Wilczynski. Rubino blocked a field goal attempt and Kinney recovered the ball and carried it down to the Brockport 25 yard line. Eisenhart made a 33 yard touchdown catch at 1:36 to make the score, 10-0. Sharkey’s first interception gave the Profs the ball on the Golden Eagles’ 27 yard line. Bianchini hit Eisenhart in the end zone on fourth down. On the ensuing drive, Scibilia threw a 71 yard touchdown pass to Hogan on the second play, cutting the deficit to three (10-7) with 47 seconds on the clock.
At 8:29 in the second, Brockport kicker E.J. Genzano (jr. Albany, NY/Guilderland) connected on a 30 yard field goal to tie the game (10-10). Nichols had five carries for 25 yards. Mrozek’s 50 yard touchdown grab put the Golden Eagles ahead, 17-10 with 1:03 remaining. Scibilia threw for 58 yards with three completions on three attempts in the drive.
Hevalow had a 21 yard touchdown run at 8:55 in the third period to tie the game at 17. Bianchini went six for six for 45 yards. Nichols found the end zone on a one yard carry at 6:28. Prior to scoring, wide receiver Joe Innes (sr. Unadilla, NY/Unatego) made a 14 yard reception and Nichols had a two yard rush. Ragonesi’s 35 yard interception return gave Brockport a 32-17 lead following the failed two-point conversion attempt. Bianchini completed a 24 yard touchdown pass to Reed to bring Rowan within eight (32-24) at 2:41. In the drive, he converted five of six pass attempts for 42 yards.
Rowan hosts SUNY Cortland in its home opener on Saturday, September 24 at 1 p.m.
