DELAWARE, OH – The Rowan University men’s 4x400 meter relay ran in the trials at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Thursday night. The Profs finished second in their heat and advance to the final. The national championships continue Friday-Saturday, May 27-28 at Ohio Wesleyan University.
In the second heat of the 4x400 meter relay, Rowan registered a season best time of 3:13.03. The relay consisted of Jayce Maxwell (jr. Toms River, NJ/Monsignor Donovan), Taylor Purdue (so. Highland Lakes, NJ/Vernon Twp.), Ali Ejaz (so. Glassboro, NJ/Glassboro) and Demetrius Rooks (so. Galloway, NJ/Absegami). The Profs qualified for the national championships with a time of 3:16.40 that came at the Eastern College Athletic Conference Championships last week.
The top three finishers in the two heats qualified for the final on Saturday at 5:15 p.m. The teams from heat one are Wis.-La Crosse (3:13.17), Nebraska Wesleyan (3:13.50) and Heidelberg (3:13.94). Rowan is joined from heat two by North Central (3:12.64) and Wis.-Whitewater (3:13.56). The next two teams with the best times also advanced. The other two schools, Wis.-Stevens Point (3:13.60) and McMurry (3:13.92) were in heat two. The top eight finishers in each event earn All-America honors.
On Saturday, Rooks will also compete in the 400 meter hurdles at 3 p.m. In heat one of the trials, he came in first with a time of 52.29. The top two finishers in the three heats and the next two best times qualified for the final. The other qualifiers include: Kevin Cunningham, McMurry (51.90); Logan Hohl, Monmouth (IL) (52.76); Sutton Coleman, Rose-Hulman (52.08); Ethan Freet, Ohio Wesleyan (52.57); Ben Edwards, York (PA) (53.16); Matt Marion, RIT (52.77) and Kyle Gilroy, The College of New Jersey (52.81).
In the women’s 400 meter hurdles trials, Tiffany Chamberlain (so. Burlington, NJ/Burlington Twp.) finished with a time of 1:05.79. She advanced to the national championships for the second straight year.
