BETHLEHEM, PA – The Rowan University men’s and women’s track and field teams finished in the top 10 at the Eastern College Athletic Conference Championships. The men tied for eighth place among 58 schools while the women were sixth out of 56 teams. The championships were held at Moravian College.
Demetrius Rooks (so. Galloway, NJ/Absegami) won the 400 meter hurdles with a NCAA automatic time of 52.34. He also broke the meet record of 52.44 by Yori Adegunwa from Ursinus College in 2001. Rooks previously had a season best in the 400 meter hurdles (52.63) at the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Championships. The NCAA automatic is 52.65. Jenn Rawls (so. Runnemede, NJ/Highland Reg.) ran a winning time of 17:17.06 in the 5000 meters. She surpassed the NCAA provisional of 17:35.00. Prior, Rawls recorded a NCAA provisional in 17:20.11 at the Larry Ellis Invitational. The men’s 4x400 meter relay came in second (3:14.34) with Jayce Maxwell (jr. Toms River, NJ/Monsignor Donovan), Taylor Purdue (so. Highland Lakes, NJ/Vernon Twp.), Ali Ejaz (so. Glassboro, NJ/Glassboro) and Rooks. The 4x400 improved on its NCAA provisional (3:16.40) they had at the conference championships which was 3:15.14.
Pierre James (so. Somerset, NJ/Franklin) took third in the shot put with a throw of 50’ 3.25” (15.32 meters). James also finished 10th in the discus with 137’ 1” (41.78 meters). Eric DuBois (jr. Pittsgrove, NJ/A.P. Schalick) had an eighth place (14:57.71) in the 5000 meters. In the long jump, Mark Lisa (jr. Highland Lakes, NJ/Vernon Twp.) tied for 16th place (21’ 4.25”, 6.51 meters).
Heidi DeGuzman (jr. Central Islip, NY/Pennsauken) finished sixth (12.69) in the 100 meters and was eighth (26.29) in the 200 meters. In the 100 meter hurdles, Jamie Thompson (fr. Monmouth Jct., NJ/South Brunswick) came in sixth (15.07) followed by Jacqui Nisbett (sr. Woodbury, NJ/Woodbury) eighth (16.25).
The women’s 4x100 meter relay came in seventh (49.12) with DeGuzman, Amirah Muneer (jr. Ewing, NJ/Ewing), Beverlee Brownlee (so. Mt. Holly, NJ/Willingboro) and Nisbett. Magan Kustera (fr. West Deptford, NJ/West Deptford) had a ninth place in the high jump. She jumped 5’ 2.25” (1.58 meters). Samantha Stapleton (fr. Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) tied for 16th place (2:18.67) in the 800 meters.
