GLASSBORO, NJ – The Prof men’s and women’s track and field teams hosted the Rowan Open on Friday.
Pierre James (so. Somerset, NJ/Franklin) won the men’s shot put and the discus. His throw of 15.84 meters in the shot put was better than the NCAA provisional (15.51 meters) and Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) qualifier (14.25 meters). He currently has the 11th best throw in Division III this season. James had a distance of 41.84 meters in the discus.
Eric DuBois (jr. Pittsgrove, NJ/A.P. Schalick) was the winner in the 5000 meters (15:03.63) and he took second in the 1500 meters (4:13.16). His time in the 5000 meters broke the meet record (15:49.34) held by Andrew Vasta (2007). It was also an ECAC qualifier (15:15.00). Ali Ejaz (so. Glassboro, NJ/Glassboro) captured first place in the 400 meters with a time of 51.62. Adam Diekewicz (jr. Glassboro, NJ/Glassboro) finished first in the pole vault with 3.66 meters. Steven Iafrate (fr. Closter, NJ/Demarest) won the javelin with a toss of 57.60 meters, which was an ECAC qualifier (54.60 meters). Mark Lisa (jr. Highland Lakes, NJ/Vernon Twp.) and Jack Curry (fr. Roosevelt, NJ/Hightstown) were first (6.50 meters) and third (5.52 meters) respectively in the long jump.
Brian Makinson (sr. Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) placed second in the high jump with a height of 1.78 meters. In the discus, Frank Visconti (so. Berlin, NJ/Eastern Reg.) had a throw of 38.84 meters for second place. Dhamiri Wilson (so. Camden, NJ/Camden) took third in the shot put with 12.12 meters, followed by Visconti, fourth (11.68 meters). John Grinnell (so. Farmingdale, NJ/Howell) was second in the hammer throw with a distance of 38.29 meters.
Brandon Taylor (so. Woodstown, NJ/Woodstown) captured third in the 100 meters (12.18). Jake McCormack (jr. Cliffwood, NJ/Matawan Reg.) had a third place in the 5000 meters (16:03.15). Benjamin Bradley (sr. Parsippany, NJ/Parsippany Hills) and Demetrius Rooks (so. Galloway, NJ/Absegami) came in third in the 110 meter (16.95) and 400 meter (55.09) hurdles respectively. Rooks recorded an ECAC qualifier (56.60) in the 400 meter hurdles.
Heidi DeGuzman (jr. Central Islip, NY/Pennsauken) won the women’s 100 meters in 13.60. Jenn Rawls (so. Runnemede, NJ/Highland Reg.) was the winner (4:50.33) in the 1500 meters while Jena Peacock (jr. Williamstown, NJ/Our Lady of Mercy Academy) took second (4:57.44). Joy Hanke (so. Cranford, NJ/Cranford) had a first place (19:17.84) in the 5000 meters followed by Ashlee White (so. West Deptford, NJ/West Deptford) second (19:25.26). Danielle Czohla (jr. Lafayette, NJ/High Point Reg.) had a winning time of 12:07.71 in the 3000 meter steeplechase.
Magan Kustera (fr. West Deptford, NJ/West Deptford) won the high jump with a height of 1.55 meters and Samantha Kamper (fr. Middletown, NJ/Middletown N.) followed second (1.50 meters). Vicky Tench (so. Sewell, NJ/Clearview Reg.) came in first in the hammer throw (37.98 meters). Sarah Dores (fr. Maple Shade, NJ/Holy Cross) took second in the javelin with a toss of 37.13 meters. Her throw was an ECAC qualifier (36.00 meters).
The women’s 4x100 meter relay finished second (50.23) with DeGuzman, Amirah Muneer (jr. Ewing, NJ/Ewing), Beverlee Brownlee (so. Mt. Holly, NJ/Willingboro) and Jamie Thompson (fr. Monmouth Jct., NJ/South Brunswick). They had a time better than the ECAC qualifier of 51.00. In the 800 meters, Samantha Stapleton (fr. Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) came in second (2:25.43) followed by Alli Catenacci (sr. Mullica Hill, NJ/Kingsway Reg.) third (2:30.81) and Christina Huynh (so. Lake Hiawatha, NJ/Parsippany) fourth (2:31.30). Thompson finished second (15.41) in the 100 meter hurdles and qualified (16.34) for the ECAC Championships. Jessica Carlson (fr. Manahawkin, NJ/Southern Reg.) was third (16.16) in the 100 meter hurdles. Kayla Leahey (fr. Keansburg, NJ/Warwick Valley) finished third in the 400 meters with a time of 1:06.76.
In the hammer, Emily Spieker (so. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) was second (35.58 meters) and Stephanie Greco (so. Monmouth Jct., NJ/South Brunswick) was third (35.00 meters). Jess Lomanaco (fr. Blackwood, NJ/Triton Reg.) took second in the discus (35.81 meters) while Spieker and Tempeste Johnson (jr. Burlington, NJ/Burlington Twp.) were fourth (30.51 meters) and fifth (28.48 meters) respectively. Arielle Moore (fr. Blackwood, NJ/Highland Reg.) took fifth in the shot put with a throw of 9.60 meters.
Grace Kaler (fr. Parsippany, NJ/Parsippany Hills) had a third place (5:15.13) in the 1500 meters while Kayla Warren (so. Gibbsboro, NJ/Eastern Reg.) and Czohla were fourth (5:19.12) and fifth (5:22.65) respectively. Meghan Borz (fr. Buena, NJ/Buena Reg.) finished third (19:39.66) in the 5000 meters and fourth (12:51.21) in the steeplechase.
Rowan travels to Johns Hopkins University on Saturday, April 16 for the Hopkins/Loyola Invitational that starts at 11 a.m.
