EWING, NJ – The Rowan University men’s and women’s outdoor track and field teams competed at the Lions’ Invitational on Friday-Saturday, April 29-30.
Steven Iafrate (fr. Closter, NJ/Demarest) captured second place in the javelin on Saturday. His throw of 200’11” (61.24 meters) was better than the NCAA provisional (193’3”, 58.90 meters) and the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championships qualifier (179’1”, 54.60 meters). Joe (Giuseppe) Mineo (so. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.) placed second in the high jump with a height of 6’2.75” (1.90 meters).
In the long jump, Mark Lisa (jr. Highland Lakes, NJ/Vernon Twp.) was third with a distance of 22’0.25” (6.71 meters). His jump was better than the ECAC qualifier (21’11.75”, 6.70 meters). Frank Visconti (so. Berlin, NJ/Eastern Reg.) took fifth in the discus with 137’6” (41.92 meters). Adam Diekewicz (jr. Glassboro, NJ/Glassboro) tied for sixth in the pole vault with a height of 13’9.25” (4.20 meters).
Mike Carotenuto (so. Port Monmouth, NJ/Middletown N.) finished sixth in the 1500 meters with a time of 4:02.68. Visconti and Dhamiri Wilson (so. Camden, NJ/Camden) were seventh (39’4”, 11.99 meters) and 12th (37’6.75”, 11.45 meters) respectively in the shot put. Benjamin Bradley (sr. Parsippany, NJ/Parsippany Hills) came in 13th (16.44) in the 110 meter hurdles and 15th (1:00.15) in the 400 meter hurdles. Brian Quilty (sr. Brick, NJ/Saint Rose) was 13th (16:14.47) in the 5000 meters. In the 400 meters, Brian Makinson (sr. Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) took 13th (52.19), followed by Ryan Hoxworth (jr. Vineland, NJ/home schooled) 14th (52.63). On Friday evening, John Grinnell (so. Farmingdale, NJ/Howell) captured 13th in the hammer throw with 117’ 1” (35.70 meters).
For the women, Danielle Czhola (jr. Lafayette, NJ/High Point Reg.) was third (11.55.72) in the 3000 meter steeplechase, while Meghan Borz (fr. Buena, NJ/Buena Reg.) came in ninth (12:31.43). Czohla’s time was faster than the ECAC qualifier (12:00.24). Ashley White (so. West Deptford, NJ/West Deptford) finished fifth (19:09.26) in the 5000 meters. Borz, Joy Hanke (so. Cranford, NJ/Cranford) and Mary Gonzales (so. Glassboro, NJ/Paul VI) were seventh (19:21.69), ninth (19:37.66) and 15th (21:07.74) respectively. Samantha Stapleton (fr. Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) captured 15th (4:54.40) in the 1500 meters. Alli Catenacci (sr. Mullica Hill, NJ/Kingsway Reg.) was 21st (2:29.71) in the 800 meters.
In the high jump, Magan Kustera (fr. West Deptford, NJ/West Deptford) tied for sixth place with a height of 5’1.25” (1.56 meters), while Sam Kamper (fr. Middletown, NJ/Middletown N.) was 16th (4’9.5”, 1.46 meters). Sarah Dores (fr. Maple Shade, NJ/Holy Cross) came in ninth in the javelin with 112’1” (34.16 meters).
In the discus, Jess Lomanaco (fr. Blackwood, NJ/Triton Reg.) placed seventh (112’1”, 34.16 meters) followed by Emily Spieker (so. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee), ninth (107’3”, 32.70 meters). Tempeste Johnson (jr. Burlington, NJ/Burlington Twp.) was 19th with a toss of 95’1” (28.98 meters). Arielle Moore (fr. Blackwood, NJ/Highland Reg.) took 10th in the shot put with a distance of 34’7” (10.54 meters). Lomanaco finished 12th with 33’3.25” (10.14 meters). On Friday, Spieker and Stephanie Greco (so. Monmouth Jct., NJ/South Brunswick) were 12th (119’ 6”, 36.42 meters) and 15th (112’ 3”, 34.22 meters) respectively in the hammer throw.
