Rowan Competes on Second Day of the Penn Relays

PHILADELPHIA, PA – The Rowan University track and field teams competed on the second day of the Penn Relays on Friday. The last day of the Penn Relays is on Saturday, April 30 at Franklin Field.

The men won the 4x400 meter relay Collegiate Track Conference (event 370) with a season best of 3:16.79. The relay qualified for the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championships that has a standard of 3:24.00 and they just missed the NCAA provisional mark (3:16.40). Jayce Maxwell (jr. Toms River, NJ/Monsignor Donovan), Taylor Purdue (so. Highland Lakes, NJ/Vernon Twp.), Ali Ejaz (so. Glassboro, NJ/Glassboro) and Demetrius Rooks (so. Galloway, NJ/Absegami) were on the 4x400.

Rooks took 17th place in the 400 meter hurdles championship (event 301). He ran a time of 52.82 which is a NCAA provisional (54.30). Rooks is currently fifth among the national qualifiers. Prior, he had a NCAA provisional of 53.04 at the Wake Forest Open.

The men’s 4x100 meter relay finished in 43.15 (event 332). The Profs’ time was an ECAC Championships qualifier (44.00). The 4x100 consisted of Josh McGriff (so. Flemington, NJ/Hunterdon Central Reg.), Maxwell, Marcus Rawls (fr. North Brunswick, NJ/Florence Twp. Mem.) and Brian Oni (fr. Kendall Park, NJ/South Brunswick). The 4x200 meter relay (event 343) of Ejaz, Brandon Taylor (so. Woodstown, NJ/Woodstown), Purdue and Rawls was 29th with a time of 1:29.68.

The women’s shuttle hurdles 4x100 meter relay (event 351) came in 13th place (60.40). The relay members were Jamie Thompson (fr. Monmouth Jct., NJ/South Brunswick), Jacqui Nisbett (sr. Woodbury, NJ/Woodbury), Tiffany Chamberlain (so. Burlington, NJ/Burlington Twp.) and Jessica Carlson (fr. Manahawkin, NJ/Southern Reg.).
