Rowan Competes At Morgan State University Legacy Meet

BALTIMORE, MD – The Rowan University men’s and women’s track and field teams competed at the Morgan State University Legacy Meet on Saturday.

Demetrius Rooks (so. Galloway, NJ/Absegami) came in fourth in the 400 meter hurdles with a NCAA provisional time of 53.61. The NCAA provisional is 54.30. His best NCAA provisional time this season is 53:04 at the Wake Forest Open (Mar. 19). In the 5000 meters, Jake McCormack (jr. Cliffwood, NJ/Matawan Reg.) took third (15:57.97) while Stephen Hoffman (jr. Ocean City, NJ/Ocean City) was seventh (16:29.16).

The men’s 4x400 meter relay ran 3:18.31 for fifth place and qualified (3:24.00) for the ECAC Championships. The 4x400 included Taylor Purdue (so. Highland Lakes, NJ/Vernon Twp.), Jayce Maxwell (jr. Toms River, NJ/Monsignor Donovan), Josh McGriff (so. Flemington, NJ/Hunterdon Central Reg.) and Rooks. The 4x100 meter relay took ninth (46.61) with McGriff, Maxwell, Marcus Rawls (fr. North Brunswick, NJ/Florence Twp. Mem.) and Brian Oni (fr. Kendall Park, NJ/South Brunswick).

Mark Lisa (jr. Highland Lakes, NJ/Vernon Twp.) captured fifth in the long jump. He leaped 22’ 3.75” (6.80 meters). Lisa surpassed the ECAC Championships qualifier of 21’ 11.75” (6.70 meters). Pierre James (so. Somerset, NJ/Franklin) had an eighth place in the discus with a throw of 142’ 9” (43.52 meters) and Frank Visconti (so. Berlin, NJ/Eastern Reg.) was 14th (133’ 11”, 40.83 meters). Visconti also came in 13th in the shot put (42’ 2.75”, 12.87 meters) and Dhamiri Wilson (so. Camden, NJ/Camden) was 18th (35’ 8.75”, 10.89 meters). Mike Carotenuto (so. Port Monmouth, NJ/Middletown N.) finished 11th (4:11.29) in the 1500 meters and Ethan Wolmark (fr. Medford, NJ/Shawnee) was 18th (4:29.87). Adam Diekewicz (jr. Glassboro, NJ/Glassboro) took ninth place in the pole vault (13’ 2.25”, 4.02 meters). Brandon Taylor (so. Woodstown, NJ/Woodstown) finished 16th (11.25) in the 100 meters and Rawls was 23rd (11.42).

The women’s 4x400 meter relay was 14th in 4:03.55. The 4x400 consisted of Jamie Thompson (fr. Monmouth Jct., NJ/South Brunswick), Jacqui Nisbett (sr. Woodbury, NJ/Woodbury), Amirah Muneer (jr. Ewing, NJ/Ewing) and Jessica Carlson (fr. Manahawkin, NJ/Southern Reg.). Nisbett finished 17th (1:06.05) in the 400 meter hurdles. Her time was an ECAC Championships qualifier (1:06.30). Magan Kustera (fr. West Deptford, NJ/West Deptford) tied for seventh (4’ 11”, 1.50 meters) in the high jump.

In the discus, Jess Lomanaco (fr. Blackwood, NJ/Highland Reg.) finished 23rd (91’ 6”, 27.90 meters) while Emily Spieker (so. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) and Stephanie Greco (so. Monmouth Jct., NJ/South Brunswick) were 24th (90’, 27.43 meters) and 25th (87’ 7”, 26.70 meters) respectively. Lomanaco also took 24th (32’ 4.25”, 9.86 meters) in the shot put followed by Arielle Moore (fr. Blackwood, NJ/Highland Reg.) 25th (30’ 7.5”, 9.33 meters).

Next week, Rowan has student-athletes that have qualified for the Penn Relays on Thursday and Friday, April 28 and 29. The men’s and women’s track and field teams travel to The College of New Jersey for the Lions’ Invitational on Saturday, April 30.
